NASCAR Driver to the Boxer Rescue!  Again!
Aug 1, 2008

Meet Momma.  Momma is a three to four year old fawn female boxer that was set to be put down in a North Carolina high-kill shelter.  She was brought to the shelter by animal control with a litter of her puppies.  Another rescue organization took the puppies, but left this poor girl behind.

When NASCAR driver Greg Biffle, and his wife Nicole, heard about this, they immediately went to the shelter to save her, just in the nick of time.  Nicole contacted Adopt a Boxer Rescue to let them know that if they could take her, they would be happy to transport her to Pennsylvania during the week of the Pocono 500 Race.

With gas prices putting a crunch on the rescue's ability to transport these dogs in need, Momma certainly received the star treatment.  She recently arrived in style in Greg's private jet, to be greeted at the airport by Adopt A Boxer Rescue Volunteers and the local news station, Newswatch 16.  She will be taken to a local veterinarian where she will be spayed and given the treatment she needs.

Please open your heart to this sweet and gentle little girl.  She will be a great addition to any family!

2008 NASCAR PETS CALENDAR FEATURES SIX FRESH FACES

Drivers’ Pets Take Center Stage With Proceeds To Benefit The Greg Biffle Foundation

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Sept. 19, 2007) – NASCAR Fans can once again spend the year with some of their favorite NASCAR celebrities – drivers’ pets! The 2008 NASCAR Pets Calendar is now on sale at select Kmart stores and NASCAR.com.

This is the third year The Greg Biffle Foundation has produced the NASCAR Pets Calendar, which has proven to be very popular with fans. The calendar features NASCAR drivers and their pets and net proceeds benefit The Greg Biffle Foundation.

“The NASCAR Pets Calendar is unique in that it shows drivers off the track with some very special family members – their pets – and it really resonates with our fans,” said Greg Biffle, driver of the No. 16 Ford and founder of The Greg Biffle Foundation. “The calendar’s success and the fan support allows us to help shelters across the country that need our help.”

The 2008 calendar features returning NASCAR personalities such as Greg Biffle with his four dogs Foster, Gracie, Savannah and Daisy; Dale Earnhardt Jr. with his Boxer Killer; Matt Kenseth with cats Lars and Charlotte; Jamie McMurray and golden Labrador Jake; Casey Mears and black Labrador Nacho and Tony Stewart with dogs Kayle and Deuce. Some of the new faces in this year’s calendar include Kurt Busch, David Gilliland, Jimmie Johnson, Dale Jarrett and David Ragan.

This year, the calendar holds special poignancy for the entire NASCAR community. Former NASCAR Chairman Bill France Jr., who passed away in June, is featured with his wife, Betty Jane France, and their four dogs Will, Lizzie, Annie and Maxwell. Under Mr. France’s stewardship, NASCAR grew from a regional sport to become the nation’s No. 1 spectator sport with 75 million fans.

As part of the launch for the calendar, Greg Biffle will make a special autograph appearance at the Kmart store located near Dover International Motor Speedway on Thursday, Sept. 20.

The autograph session will take place from 5-7pm inside the Kmart store located on 515 North DuPont Highway. Adopt a Boxer Rescue will be in attendance with pets available for adoption.

The Adopt a Boxer Rescue organization is unique in that they maintain close contact to the dogs after they are placed in homes and have a “no-questions-asked” return policy.

These events are free, and open to the public. For more information on The Greg Biffle Foundation’s NASCAR Pets Calendar, visit www.gregbifflefoundation.com or www.NASCAR.com/foundation.

NASCAR Driver to the Boxer Rescue!

By Ryan Leckey

A jet landed at the Wilkes-Barre Scranton International Airport Friday on a rescue mission. The goal was to save two boxer dogs,  Barbara and Betty.  The dogs need homes.

Greg Biffle is a NASCAR driver. The North Carolina native flew into town for the race at Pocono. Before he gets behind the wheel, Biffle is making sure these precious pups are safe. "We've seen so many cruelty situations and people that don't take care of their pets, Biffle says. "It's nice that they're going to be going to a good home and not get put down. "

Biffle runs an animal foundation. The race car driver claims shelters in the south are over- populated. He turned to Dawn Karam of Lackawanna County. She runs Adopt a Boxer Rescue in Dickson City and hopes to get the canine couple a family that'll love them.  "It's nice to know people care. Especially someone who's busy. He's here for a race. This shows obviously what a nice person he is," explained Karam.

The boxers will be taken to a local vets office where they'll get a check up before they're eventually placed in new homes.

Pups hitch ride with nascar driver BY CHRIS BIRK STAFF WRITER

PITTSTON TOWNSHIP — On their way to the track at Long Pond, NASCAR driver Greg Biffle and his girlfriend stepped off their private jet Friday morning with two extra passengers in tow.

For Barbara and Betty, the pair of boxers headed for the care of a Dickson City dog rescue group, the first order of business was a bathroom break. Their paws click-clacking on the tarmac, the dogs were led from the plane to a more private spot before their moment in the spotlight.

“They’re so strong,” said Nicole Lunders, yanked forward by a curious boxer. “Not many dogs get to ride on jets.”

Saved from possible euthanasia in North Carolina, Barbara and Betty got the unique lift to Northeastern Pennsylvania through a network of animal lovers.

The professional racecar driver and Ms. Lunders flew into the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport for this weekend’s Pocono 500 at Pocono Raceway. They agreed to drop off the two dogs for Dawn Karam, whose Adopt-a-Boxer Rescue finds homes for dozens of homeless dogs.

The Dickson City resident wanted to help Barbara and Betty after reading about their plight in an e-mail sent out to animal rescue groups by Ms. Lunders, who runs the Greg Biffle Foundation. Mr. Biffle and Ms. Lunders, both boxer lovers, created the foundation to help provide funding and homes for animals.

Overcrowded animal shelters dot North Carolina, so Mrs. Karam figured the dogs would have a better shot at survival here. She got in touch with Ms. Lunders and explained her own plight: Her rescue group wanted to help, but transporting the animals would be costly.

So, Mr. Biffle and Ms. Lunders opted to bring the dogs along for the airplane ride.

“It’s really important for us. We have seen so many cruelty situations — they put a lot of dogs down in the North Carolina area,” said Mr. Biffle. “They were good riders. It’s a small thing I can provide.”

After touch down, the high-strung pair of pups were passed to their new caretaker.

Mrs. Karam hopes to find new homes for the dogs soon. After a week of check-ups and relaxation at the Dunmore Dog and Cat Hospital, both Barbara and Betty will need permanent housing.

“This was a nice perk — one of the easiest volunteer transports we’ve ever had,” said Mrs. Karam. “They’ll have a new life. I hate to see two great dogs who are nice be put to sleep because they had nowhere to go.”

Mr. Biffle and Ms. Lunders, meanwhile, are planning another dog drop-off in July, when they return to the region for the Pennsylvania 500.

This time, they’ll be bringing a boxer treated for heart worm disease.

With the new additions, the Adopt-a-Boxer Rescue now has about 50 boxers in need of homes, said Mrs. Karam.

“We’re always scrambling. There’s never enough space,” she said. “You just make do. That’s what we’re doing.”
