10/11/15

One of our volunteers met Abe yesterday.  He indicated that Abe is a handsome and sweet boy.  He did great with Madison, his submissive female boxer.  Abe gave her kisses, but was more interested in walking around and eating grass.  He was also wonderful with our volunteer and just wanted attention.  Abe is currently at a training facility in New Jersey and is still looking for a foster or forever home.

8/31/15

Abe's new foster home's work schedule changed and he will be traveling too much to help Abe continue his behavior modification.  Once again, Abe is in need of a foster home.  At this time, he would do best in a home where he is the only pet.  If you are willing to work with Abe and our trainer, please contact AABR and submit an application to help Abe!

New video... Watch this guy run and play!     =>

8/12/15

Abe is doing wonderful with the trainer.  His leg does not slow him down and he has made wonderful progress.  Abe will be arriving at his new foster home this weekend.  We will be posting a video soon, but included are some new photos!

8/01/15

Abe has had a rough road since he was born. Found as a stray as a puppy in a very poor area of Philadelphia, he was taken in by AABR within minutes of euthanasia at the city's high kill shelter. We knew it wouldn't be easy to adopt out a boxer mix but to save him we did it anyway. Out of 200 rescues the shelter works with we were the only one to step up.

Abe has overcome Parvo and a broken leg that was so bad it had to be amputated. He then went to a young woman's home that didn't have the experience needed to manage two dogs. Abe was taken back into rescue yesterday.

He is now at our trainers home for an intensive two week course to hone his obedience skills and to help him refresh his social skills with other dogs

Upon meeting Abe our trainer instantly liked him. He's a small guy at 34 lbs. and he was quickly and properly introduced to the trainers mastiff and did great with him.

Abe can go to a home with a female dog just to play it safe as some males don't like other males.

Abe is a sweet loving dog that loves to exercise and have fun. A home with kids over 10 would be best . We wouldn't want the younger ones to fall on his good leg. Having three legs is not a problem for him. There is nothing he can't do.

Abe needs a break. We need to show Abe that people are good and kind. Could you be his hero?

Abe visited the orthopedic surgeon.  Two doctors worked together, hoping to be able to save his leg.  Unfortunately, it was an old break and the bones healed into something that could not be repaired.  Abe's leg had to be amputated and he is now back at his foster home to recover.  Please consider donating towards Abe's care.  This sweet boy has had a really rough start, but is now on the road to recovery.

9/22/14

Now that Abe is up and moving, we discovered that he is limping on his back leg.  The vet X-rayed him and found a previous fracture.  This poor boy must have been in a lot of pain.

Abe has just arrived at his new foster home and will be seeing the orthopedic surgeon as soon as possible.  Please consider making a donation towards Abe's medical care!  We will update his page as soon as we have more information.

9/16/14

Abe is slowly improving.  On Saturday evening, he did not have any vomiting or diarrhea overnight and he was finally producing urine.  Abe is being switched to oral medication and hopefully will have interest in eating soon!

9/11/14 -

Abe is a 4 month old boxer mix who was diagnosed with Parvovirus and is currently at one of our vet hospitals for treatment.  If you are not familiar with Parvo, puppies should receive vaccines that will prevent this, starting at 6-8 weeks of age.  Parvo is highly contagious and can be deadly if left untreated.  Abe will need extended medical care in an isolation unit until he is past the danger point.

AABR was not the first rescue contacted to take Abe, but we were the last that needed to be asked.  We are once again requesting your support in making sure Abe gets the medical care he needs.  Please consider making a donation in his name.  And please send good thoughts and prayers his way also!  We will continue to post updates about his progress.

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please first read our Adoption Procedure, by clicking on the link at the top of this page, then fill out an online application.

Boxers and Applicants are not matched on a first come, first served basis. Not all applications are approved. On average, it takes between a week and 3 months to adopt a Rescue Boxer to an approved applicant, depending on your personal circumstances and flexibility.

Not every home is the right match for a boxer, and matching Boxers suitable for placement with younger children, other dogs, cats, and special needs, yours and theirs, increases the application review time and adoption time.

And yes, we realize that the Boxer you may have your heart set on, may be adopted before you're approved.   Should your first choices all ready found their forever home, we want you to advise us at your home visit of other dogs you are interested...  Or let us suggest a few that we feel will match your home.  That is what we are good at.   And be happy for the ones that have been placed... and know that there are way too many fantastic dogs waiting in their place.

Our non-profit organization is wholly comprised of hard-working volunteers whose only reward is seeing our wonderful Boxers placed in loving, permanent homes and given another chance for a happy life. Our process may seem slow, but if you are patient, we will try to provide you with a devoted, loving companion - a Boxer.

We hope you feel that the right Boxer is worth waiting for.
