Brewster's Story - A Happy Ending...

Thanks to everyone who followed his story.

11/27/15

Brewster has just finished his first month of rehab and evaluation.  He is doing very well and just arrived at his new foster home outside of the city to give him more room to run and play!  This boy has so much spunk and life in him - he is a different dog than we picked up a month ago!  Brewster's court case is scheduled for December 15, and we are hoping for a quick resolution so he can move on to the next chapter of his life!

11/12/15

We have received many requests for an update on Brewster.  Because he is key evidence in a felony investigation, we are not allowed to speak to his physical condition or post pictures, but we can definitely comment on his winning personality and unbreakable spirit.  He continues to be that loveable and happy boy that we instantly fell in love with.  Everyone that has met Brewster has felt this instant connection with him as he looks at you  with those big, innocent eyes.  We are not yet considering adoptive homes for Brewster, as he will need to remain in foster care for the duration of the court case.  We are thankful to everyone involved in his care, including those that have donated to support him.

10/20/15

An arrest has been made in Brewster's case and his previous owner has been charged with animal cruelty.  We are very thankful to the NYPD for jumping on this so quickly.  Brewster is doing well and had a forensic evaluation today to collect evidence for his case.  He has gained 6 lbs in the past week and continues to eat well and steal hearts wherever he goes.  Brewster was SO excited to meet AABR alum Ben last night.  I think Ben shared the secret of how good life is here at AABR.  Thank you for all your continued support of Brewster.  As he is still part of an open investigation to continue to build a case against his abuser, please know that we do have to be limited on some of the information we share as to not interfere with the police.

10/15/15

Brewster is still holding his own and is stronger today than he was yesterday.  He even went outside today!  We are still watching his labs closely as we continue his small, frequent feedings.  His pressure sores are a bit infected and he will require bandage changes.  Brewster loves the other dogs at the hospital!

10/14/15

Brewster made it through the night.  He is showing interest in food and has been started on a slow refeeding schedule of every two hours.  Brewster is on fluids and is also drinking on his own.  He is on antibiotics for some infected pressure sores.  His bloodwork showed anemia, which is not surprising.  All of the staff at the vet hospital are commenting about what a sweet boy Brewster is!

10/13/15 -

AABR received a frantic call from the NYC shelter director asking for help for Brewster.  He is 25.8 lbs and fighting for his life.  We are going to give him the best chance at that fight.  Brewster was found in a park and carried to safety by a Good Samaritan, who noted that even in his terrible condition, Brewster was wagging his nub.  Brewster just arrived at the ER and his heart and lungs sound good.  He is getting fluids and lab work done this evening and our volunteers will visit with him tomorrow.  Please keep him in your thoughts and consider donating for Brewster to help with his care!

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please first read our Adoption Procedure, by clicking on the link at the top of this page, then fill out an online application.

Boxers and Applicants are not matched on a first come, first served basis. Not all applications are approved. On average, it takes between a week and 3 months to adopt a Rescue Boxer to an approved applicant, depending on your personal circumstances and flexibility.

Not every home is the right match for a boxer, and matching Boxers suitable for placement with younger children, other dogs, cats, and special needs, yours and theirs, increases the application review time and adoption time.

And yes, we realize that the Boxer you may have your heart set on, may be adopted before you're approved.   Should your first choices all ready found their forever home, we want you to advise us at your home visit of other dogs you are interested...  Or let us suggest a few that we feel will match your home.  That is what we are good at.   And be happy for the ones that have been placed... and know that there are way too many fantastic dogs waiting in their place.

Our non-profit organization is wholly comprised of hard-working volunteers whose only reward is seeing our wonderful Boxers placed in loving, permanent homes and given another chance for a happy life. Our process may seem slow, but if you are patient, we will try to provide you with a devoted, loving companion - a Boxer.

We hope you feel that the right Boxer is worth waiting for.
