7/29/16 - MEMORIAL

Shortly after joining AABR, we discovered that Bella was suffering from Degenerative Myelopathy (DM).  On July 24th, nearly seven months later, her foster family said goodbye and sent her to the rainbow bridge with all the love she deserved.  Sweet dreams and run free, Bella!

3/12/16

Bella is doing well in her foster home, although her health has started to decline.  Her feet are now turning under when she walks, which is causing Bella to limp more frequently on her front leg that has the deformity.  When Bella gets up from her crate, she struggles with balance.  She has also started to fall when outside.  Her foster mom will be taking her soon to get rechecked by our vet.

We did learn that Bella's test results came back as a carrier for DM.  The vet indicated that most carriers do not actually develop the disease, although there are exceptions.  At her next recheck appointment, we may do some additional testing.

Bella is eating well and is very loved by her foster family.  She is enjoying the warmer weather and loves to roll around in the grass.

1/10/16

Bella is settling in well at her new foster home.  She gets along great with her foster brother, a male boxer, but does tire quickly when playing.  Bella visited our vet and has been treated for worms and ear mites.  We received the good news that both her heart and lungs sounded great!  Bella does have severe arthritis of her spine and knees.  The vet is doing a blood test to determine if she may have the beginnings of Degenerative Myelopathy (DM).  Since beginning her new medications for arthritis, Bella's foster mom reports that she is moving and feeling much better.

12/29/15 -

Bella was found as a stray and is estimated to be around 10 yrs old.  The shelter reports that Bella is super sweet and loves people.  She has also done great on her dog tests.  Bella has been spayed at the shelter and had some lumps removed.  The vet also indicated that Bella has an enlarged heart and a thickening in her right knee.  We will have her health concerns evaluated further at our rescue vet once she gets settled in at her foster home.  Bella will be arriving at her new foster home just in time for the holiday and we will update her page once her foster family learns more about her.

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please first read our Adoption Procedure, by clicking on the link at the top of this page, then fill out an online application.

Boxers and Applicants are not matched on a first come, first served basis. Not all applications are approved. On average, it takes between a week and 3 months to adopt a Rescue Boxer to an approved applicant, depending on your personal circumstances and flexibility.

Not every home is the right match for a boxer, and matching Boxers suitable for placement with younger children, other dogs, cats, and special needs, yours and theirs, increases the application review time and adoption time.

And yes, we realize that the Boxer you may have your heart set on, may be adopted before you're approved.   Should your first choices all ready found their forever home, we want you to advise us at your home visit of other dogs you are interested...  Or let us suggest a few that we feel will match your home.  That is what we are good at.   And be happy for the ones that have been placed... and know that there are way too many fantastic dogs waiting in their place.

Our non-profit organization is wholly comprised of hard-working volunteers whose only reward is seeing our wonderful Boxers placed in loving, permanent homes and given another chance for a happy life. Our process may seem slow, but if you are patient, we will try to provide you with a devoted, loving companion - a Boxer.

We hope you feel that the right Boxer is worth waiting for.
