Bart has been moved to a new foster home in PA.

1/25/16

Bart is looking for a new foster home because his foster mom is allergic to him.  He is a very lovable guy.  Bart understands commands and is pretty mellow.  He loves to play and also enjoys snuggle time.  Bart walks nicely on a leash, takes treats gently, and will give you his toys.  He is wonderful with children and other dogs.  If anyone is looking for a loving addition to your home and family, Bart is a great choice!

Bart has been an angel since I picked him up on Thursday.  He was a little nervous getting in the car, but quickly settled in.  He relaxed and enjoyed the ride.  Once we got home, Bart was cautious as he checked out the yard and the house.  After about ten minutes, he came over to me and gave me a big boxer hug and kiss.  Bart is a very affectionate boy.  He loves to be scratched and leans in when you pet him.

Bart knows his commands and sits nicely when asked.  He will lay down and stay.  I incorporated hand signals and Bart picked up on them right away.  He is very smart!  When walking on a leash, Bart quickly learned to stop at crosswalks.  When I say Okay, he will continue on.  Bart doesn't pull on leash and typically walks right beside me.

Friday was the first day Bart was alone in the house.  I set up the crate, but he didn't have an interest in it.  I ended up giving him free run.  Almost eight hours later, I returned to Bart sleeping in his bed.  Nothing in the house had been touched.  Bart stays in his own bed all evening and through the night.

On Sunday we had four children at our house, ranging in ages from 9 to 13 years old.  Bart got a spring in his step that I hadn't seen yet.  He was excited to play with the children all afternoon and was very well behaved with them.  He seems much younger than his age when playing, even if it is only him and a toy.  Bart loves squeaky toys and balls. He kicks them around and runs after them!

Overall, Bart is a great dog.  He is obedient, well-behaved, smart, mellow, and an absolute cuddler.  Don't let his size scare you.  Bart is gentle and does not jump on you.  He rarely barks.  Bart is going to be a great addition to any family.

1/16/16 -

Bart was surrendered to the shelter by his former owner, a disabled veteran, who was unable to care for him any longer.  He did great on his evaluation with other dogs.  Bart's surrender paperwork indicated he did well with dogs, children, and strangers.  Bart greeted everyone at the vet with his nub wags, snaggle tooth, and boxer leans.

Bart just arrived at his new foster home and is settling in well.  He is a gentle giant and a love bug.  Bart knows his basic commands and has been well behaved.  We will update his page once his foster family gets to know him better.

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please first read our Adoption Procedure, by clicking on the link at the top of this page, then fill out an online application.

Boxers and Applicants are not matched on a first come, first served basis. Not all applications are approved. On average, it takes between a week and 3 months to adopt a Rescue Boxer to an approved applicant, depending on your personal circumstances and flexibility.

Not every home is the right match for a boxer, and matching Boxers suitable for placement with younger children, other dogs, cats, and special needs, yours and theirs, increases the application review time and adoption time.

And yes, we realize that the Boxer you may have your heart set on, may be adopted before you're approved.   Should your first choices all ready found their forever home, we want you to advise us at your home visit of other dogs you are interested...  Or let us suggest a few that we feel will match your home.  That is what we are good at.   And be happy for the ones that have been placed... and know that there are way too many fantastic dogs waiting in their place.

Our non-profit organization is wholly comprised of hard-working volunteers whose only reward is seeing our wonderful Boxers placed in loving, permanent homes and given another chance for a happy life. Our process may seem slow, but if you are patient, we will try to provide you with a devoted, loving companion - a Boxer.

We hope you feel that the right Boxer is worth waiting for.
