Athena will be rechecked soon to determine if any follow up is needed regarding her heartworm treatment.  She is building her trust and confidence with new people.  Athena loves the grandchildren in her home and is always involved in their activities.  She enjoys car rides, but is still nervous around new dogs.  Athena has free run of the house while her foster family is at work and she is very well behaved.

10/05/16

Athena has completed her heartworm treatment and is currently on six weeks of rest until her next recheck.  She is happy to back in her foster home and is recovering well.  Included are some updated photos of this beautiful girl.

Athena is doing well in her foster home.  She has the run of the house for about 7-8 hours a day.  Athena is housebroken and does not bother anything.  She needs slow introductions to adults, children, and other dogs.  Athena is now comfortable around the grandchildren in her foster home (ages 9, 8, 6, and 2 yrs).  She can be overwhelmed with a lot of activity, though.  Athena has spent so much of her previous time enclosed in a pen and viewing her environment from behind a secure, safe fence.  She now has to learn to deal with everything on the other side and it can be a bit overwhelming.  Athena continues to build confidence and trust with each day.  She will be starting her heartworm treatment next month.

7/23/16 -

Athena was surrendered along with her puppy, Beauty, to find a home that can provide more time and attention for each of them.  Her previous owner purchased Athena from Craigslist.  She was malnourished and in very poor shape.  Athena has been living outside for the past year.  She is reported to be good with other dogs, but Athena does chase cats.

Athena was very nervous on her transport.  She arrived at her new foster home and is settling in well.  Athena is becoming more comfortable with each day.  Her foster mom reports that she is housebroken and will let you know when she needs to go out.  She is very sweet and loves being close to her family.

When Athena was brought up to date on vet care, we discovered that she is heartworm positive.  She will begin her treatment soon.  Please consider sponsoring Athena and donating towards her heartworm treatment.

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please first read our Adoption Procedure, by clicking on the link at the top of this page, then fill out an online application.

Boxers and Applicants are not matched on a first come, first served basis. Not all applications are approved. On average, it takes between a week and 3 months to adopt a Rescue Boxer to an approved applicant, depending on your personal circumstances and flexibility.

Not every home is the right match for a boxer, and matching Boxers suitable for placement with younger children, other dogs, cats, and special needs, yours and theirs, increases the application review time and adoption time.

And yes, we realize that the Boxer you may have your heart set on, may be adopted before you're approved.   Should your first choices all ready found their forever home, we want you to advise us at your home visit of other dogs you are interested...  Or let us suggest a few that we feel will match your home.  That is what we are good at.   And be happy for the ones that have been placed... and know that there are way too many fantastic dogs waiting in their place.

Our non-profit organization is wholly comprised of hard-working volunteers whose only reward is seeing our wonderful Boxers placed in loving, permanent homes and given another chance for a happy life. Our process may seem slow, but if you are patient, we will try to provide you with a devoted, loving companion - a Boxer.

We hope you feel that the right Boxer is worth waiting for.
