We are very sad to report the
passing of a boxer that briefly touched our lives, but will stay in our
hearts forever. Max was our first foster dog.
We picked him up from the shelter and were saddened to see the
state that he was in. Max was very skinny and very
lethargic. He was surrendered to the shelter at 6
years of age due to health issues, but we were hoping to rehabilitate him
and help him find a permanent, loving home. Two days
after we brought him home, the veterinarians found a large tumor in his
abdomen. He was also very jaundiced from difficulties
with his liver. Max was not given a good prognosis for
recovery and the very difficult decision was made to humanely euthanize
him. We visited with Max for a long time that morning,
giving him the love that he deserved and just letting him soak up all the
attention and then fall asleep beside us. We stayed by
his side as he passed peacefully to the bridge. Max is
no longer in any pain or discomfort and we treasure the little time that
we had with him. We find comfort in knowing that we
did our best to save him and that Max did not pass away alone in a
shelter. We are very thankful to AABR for doing
everything they could to give Max a
second chance.
