 02/12/05 - Update on Rocky

Well, I must say that this boy certainly has lived up to his namesake – he’s the comeback kid!  After a ‘rocky’ start in life, he’s ready to get back in the ring and win your heart.  Ok, enough Rockyisims.  After 2 short weeks in foster, Rocky is 100% housebroken, walks very nicely on lead with a harness, is doing well on sit, come and his favorite ‘let’s go for a ride’ – this dog loves to cruise!  He is one of the mushiest dogs I’ve ever met – a real velcro boy.  Don’t expect a lot of privacy with Rocky in the house – he’ll follow you from room to room just to make sure he’s not missing out on any fun and games.

Rocky’s perfect home will be with a family that has someone around most of the day.  And he absolutely must have a fenced yard – he’s very puppy like and after spending his life in a cage, he wants to explore every single part of the world.  Rocky is a little cautious around strangers but once he knows you, you’re his friend for life.  Rocky is a strong, happy, healthy boxer with all of the wonderful traits that boxers are known for.  If you’re looking for a great family dog, Rocky’s ready to meet you.

Because Rocky was routinely attacked by another dog chained on the property where he lived, Rocky's initial reaction to other dogs is one of suspicion.  He is presently living with another male boxer.  It took approximately 10 days for Rocky to understand that the dog he's living with will not attack him and they now sleep together.

Rocky will do fine with another dog that is not aggressive or dominant.  The only setback Rocky has shown with his foster brother is his velcro personality - it took some time for Rocky to understand that if his foster brother is getting attention from me, it doesn't mean that I love him any less.  Slow, steady and consistent supervision will allow Rocky to understand that he will not be hurt.  Once he understands that, he will fit into any household.  Oh, and he's absolutely fine with cats - shows no interest whatsoever.

01/29/05 - Rocky

And once again we are forced to ask why do some people have dogs? Meet Rocky one of the sweetest dogs you can hope to know. Rocky loves people, all people and for the life of me I can¹t understand why he would. Rocky spent his entire life in the cage you see pictured to the right. Yes, his entire life winter, summer, rain, snow, that was Rocky¹s home. For exercise, he was occasionally chained to the clothesline (also shown in the picture) where he was subjected to attack by another dog chained on the same property. Rocky¹s life was awful! But all of that is changing because AABR stepped in.

So let me tell you about Rocky. He¹s such a mush I don¹t know where to begin he loves to ride in the car, loves to chill out on the couch, loves to play, loves to run, loves belly rubs, loves any and all attention he can get and he¹s ok with cats. Rocky would really like to be the only dog in the house. He is so starved for love that it¹s unfair to ask him to compete for his human¹s affection. In the little time he¹s been fostered, Rocky has shown himself to be quite loyal, barking when someone comes to the door but once seeing another person, all wiggles.

While in foster care, we¹re teaching Rocky some basic doggie manners; how to walk nicely on lead (he needs a harness he does pull). I was told he can sit and shake hands. He¹s about 95% housebroken already.

Rocky is young, healthy and strong so please keep that in mind if you think you¹ve got the perfect home for this love bug. We¹ve made a promise to Rocky that he will never have to spend another day freezing, wet and shivering with cold. Are you the family that will help us keep that promise?
