This good boy continues to surprise us. We
discovered that Leo knows how to "shake a paw " too! This dog was well
trained and very loved at one point in his life, it is difficult to
understand how he could have ever been given up. Tomorrow he goes to the
groomer with our retriever for a bubble bath, nail trim and ear cleaning.
He will be quite the dapper gentleman after that!

Leo has been in our foster home for 7 days now, and is adjusting
wonderfully! We have not been able to find a down side to this dog. He is
just great! We have 4 kids, ranging in age from 8 mo. to 10 years, and a
female retriever that is 2 yrs old. Leo gets along great with all of them,
and with all of the other dogs and humans he has come across.
Walking him on a leash is a joy, as he does not stray from your side at all.
On our walk there are many dogs barking from porches or lawns, and he never
loses his cool. He enjoys car rides, usually laying down in the back to
catch a snooze while we drive, then smashing his nose against the window
when we get out of the car to guilt us into taking him along. (Sorry boy, no
coffee shop for you.) I cannot imagine that Leo is as old as 6, because he
can run like the wind through our fenced back yard, and has jumped up and
down our 5 ft retaining walls without any problem at all. It is just
beautiful, like watching a gazelle. Luckily, the 4 ft fence keeps him in, so
I guess he is not interested in leaving.
Leo is completely housebroken. We use a baby gate to keep him in the
mudroom with a dog bed when we are gone for short periods of time. This
seems to work just fine, and helps keep his stress in check. I assume a
crate would work well too.
Our main goal is to fatten Leo up. He has been eating plenty of dog food,
with a few bites of people food here and there as well. He knows "sit" and
"lay down", and takes a treat very gently from even a child's hand. Leo is
all boxer. He does a great "boxer wiggle", follows you from room to room,
and loves to lean against you while you pet him. Leo will seek out the
nearest dog bed when its time to nap, but has yet to try to get on any
furniture.
He is so sweet, loving, and eager to please and deserves a super family
home filled with lots of love, walks, and treats. I'll send new photos
within the week, and I hope they'll show a weight gain and a much happier
boy!!
4/16/05 -Leo
Leo
is a sweet 6-7 year old HANDSOME boy. His owners brought him to a New York
high kill shelter because the new baby in the house was allergic.
Poor Leo. He is so very thin. Boxers loose so much weight from the
stress of being in a large noisy shelter.
Leo is now in a kennel waiting for a foster home or forever home.
