3/24/10 - MEMORIAL

It is with great sadness I must report the passing of Sweet Sam on March 1st this year. Most of you read about Sam - he is the boy who weighed 21lbs when picked up. I want to thank AABR for bringing this wonderful boy to me. A special thank you to Dawn, Stephanie, and my dear friend Sally, who took care of him when I had to go out of town on business. Sam could not be boarded, because he would get sick. Thank you for taking such good care of him.

Sam loved his food and could eat his bowl of food in less than 3 minutes. He had been failing these last months.  I would ask him to please let me know when his struggle was over. As we all know, it is so hard to have to make that decision, and it is often fraught with guilt. Sam heard me through all of our talks with his head in my lap. On this day he struggled to get up, so I thought I would bring his food dish to him. He saw me coming with it and turned his head away. I knew what he was telling me. I am so grateful to him for that gesture. Sam left this world without any struggles and surrounded with love with his head in my lap.

Sam was a senior and was so grateful for food, water, a soft bed and love. Twice a day he would jump for joy when you picked up his food bowl, and this was every day. He was a funny guy and made me laugh everyday and took pleasure in doing so. He gave himself a job - it was patrolling the fence that lines a alley. He tried to keep every animal, person, car or truck out of his alley. He always thought he won.

He loved his sister, Sadie, and did everything she did, he didn't always know why he was barking but if Sadie was, it must be the thing to do. Sadie misses him - they were great friends. Sam was a gentle and kind guy. Sadie and I are so blessed to have had him in our life. He is so missed by all who knew him.

05/2006 - ADOPTED

04/26/06

Sam continues to be the sweetest and most gentle boy. He is very noble and proud. I look at his face and can see the wheels turning. He is a big guy but ever so gentle. He follows me everywhere I go, doesn't want anything except to be near me. He is so good with Sadie. Sadie does not like to be cold, he lets her cuddle up to him and only lifts his head as if to say "Oh only you". He has learned to go down the steps. I can not tell you what a love he is and how he makes me laugh

02/22/06

Sam is a sweet and gentle man. He follows me everywhere, he's not annoying just wants to be near his people. He could be sound asleep and snoring but when I get up to leave he is right behind me. I really don't know how he knows. He is great with my pit-bull mix adopted from Jamie and Dawn. He is very clever on how to get my sole attention, he will take a toy and entice Sadie to play tug and when she's really into it he'll drop it and come over to cuddle with me. What a boy. He is so unassuming wants nothing but love. I will cry when he gets his forever home. He has a deep bark, which he doesn't use frequently.

12/07/05 -

Sam is a great dog. He is fine at my home for 9 hrs a day, nothing out of place. He is great with my dog Sadie a pit-bull mix adopted from AABR last year and is starting to initiate play with her.

He is a shadow, following me everywhere but not wanting anything from me, just to be near me, he will curl up and take a nap and just wait for you.

When we took Sam in, he had very little energy and was unsure of what we expected of him.  He is so loving and willing to do whatever you want just to please you.  All he wants is for you to love him and he just loves everyone he meets.
He is more energetic now and plays with our small female boxer and is not rough.  The only thing that he does that we can't have is he wants to bite at our horses and cows, but he is not mean about it, but it does scare our horses.
I can't say enough how loving he is and he was gentle with our 6 year old granddaughter.  He loves being in the house and sleeps in a dog bed in our bedroom.
Sam also likes to go in the car and truck, just as long as he gets to go with us.  Please, someone give this very loving dog his forever home.

Sam is doing so well in his new foster home. He is in foster with a female boxer who was adopted through AABR and a whole farm filled with animals. He is so sweet and doing great. Sam just got here so we will update more on him soon. Stay tuned.

I wanted to give you an update on Sam.
He was just neutered yesterday, and came thru with flying colors. This dear boy was everyone's buddy at the vet's office.
Everyone couldn't believe how sweet he was.   He just followed them around as they went about their work.
I think he may be management material.   He saw the 3 cats running around, and paid no attention to them.
He became the official greeter while he was there as well.
He weighs a whopping 69 lbs now, he's come a long way from the 21lbs he weighed when he came into rescue.
This guy deserves a very special home where he can live in comfort forever.

4/10/05 - Sam -

Meet amazing Sam!  We say amazing because it is amazing that he is still alive.  Poor sweet Sam was left outside to die tied to a dog house in West Virginia.  When a kind all breed rescuer in West Virginia saw that Sam was not coming out of his dog house, she begged his sorry excuse for owners to please let her take him.  They reluctantly agreed and she had to crawl into his dark, cold dog house and drag his lifeless body out. Sam had been without food or water for days.  He was in such bad shape that the vet told her that he would not live, but she saw something in his eyes that said YES I will.  Maybe he knew that his days of hard luck were about to end!  Sam weighed only 21 pounds when he was saved from certain death!

When AABR was contacted and asked to take Sam to safety, one look into his eyes and he was on his way!  Sam is a doing very well now...he must feel the love that is all around him!  He is gaining weight nicely and will be neutered this week!  Everyone who meets him remarks on how wonderful he is, so sweet and funny...the reason people get Boxers!  Sam is house trained and good with cats.  He seems to be doing well with the other dogs around him.

Please, open your heart to this wonderful boy, give him the life that he so truly deserves.  Despite everything he has been through, he is still amazing Sam!
