11/26/05 - Memorial It is with deep
sadness that AABR must announce the passing of Lester.
Although living with the cancer that ultimately took his life, in true Boxer
spirit, Lester never lost his ability to love everyone, sharing his joy with
each person and animal he met. Lester found his forever
home with his foster family and his mom was with him to help him to the
bridge. Good-bye sweet boy – thank you for bringing so
much love to all of us.

The biopsy on Lester's tumor
came back and unfortunately, our biggest fears have been realized - Lester
has a very aggressive form of cancer in his throat that is inoperable.
True to the nature of this breed, Lester is showing no signs of illness -
he continues to eat well, play with his boxer brother and enjoy his daily
outings to the park. Our wonderful veterinary hospital will continue to
monitor Lester, making certain that the rest of his life is pain free and
happy. Please remember Lester in your thoughts and prayers and please help
us continue to help all of the dogs that Adopt A Boxer Rescue brings into
our lives and our hearts.

In my
original write up on Lester, I asked the question - what's the going rate on
loyalty these days? I think I now know.
Lester was almost adopted. He was going to live with a wonderful couple
- a couple that promised to love him forever.
But then something awful happened . Before he could even meet his
new family, Lester began to bleed from his mouth and he was immediately
rushed to our vet. An extensive exam revealed a growth way in the back of
his throat. He was x-rayed and biopsied. We are waiting for the
results, but it does not look good.
The initial diagnosis is that this sweet boy, this wonderful, amazing,
loving boy has a very fast growing, aggressive form of cancer. The news has
devastated everyone that knows him. We will know for certain in about five
days.
Lester is in his forever home now - with his foster/adopted family. As
long as he is pain free, he will be loved and spoiled and each moment he
will be cherished - he deserves that. Oh, and the price of loyalty? You
can't put a price on it - you can only hold on to each moment in your heart
and know that the love you give will be given back a million times over.

LESTER WILL STAY AT HIS FOSTER HOME
HIS SAD STORY WILL BE POSTED TOMORROW
8/03/05 -
What’s the going rate on
loyalty these days? Twenty minutes?
One hour? One day? As soon as
we have an answer to this question, then we’ll know why Lester was turned
into an overcrowded high-kill shelter.
Let me tell you about Lester – he’s housebroken, he touches nothing in
the house, he’s fine when you leave him home alone, he’s undemanding, and a
dream to walk – I’m using a puppy lead on him – no pulling at all.
And just as a bonus, he’s beautiful. He’s
healthy, neutered, cropped and docked. He likes
everyone, adults, children, dogs and cats. So what was
his crime? His humans determined that after 5+ years,
Lester was not worth their time – that’s what they said to the intake clerk
at the shelter ‘no time for him’.
This beautiful proud boy walked out of the shelter confused and scared –
not knowing why he was suddenly put into this place with so many strange
smells, strange sounds and strange people. But there was
something about him…. Something wonderful shined through to the shelter
staff and they knew that they had to get him into our rescue group.
So a call was made and AABR immediately got him.
He’s in foster care now – with another male boxer and a cat.
He’s loving the soft dog bed (he hasn’t attempted the couch or bed
yet) and is already playing with his new ‘brother’ boxer.
Lester deserved better from his previous humans – he deserved to be loved
for his entire life. After spending time with Lester, I
have no doubt that he gave love, loyalty and amazing companionship to them.
AABR will make sure that the lucky people that bring Lester into
their home and lives will guarantee Lester the security of a forever home.

- Lester
Lester was brought to a high kill shelter by his owners. They said
they did not have time for him. Lester's foster home says he is the PERFECT
dog. How much time does it take to feed and walk this dog?
Lester is housebroken, likes dogs, cats, kids, and adults.
When you are an easy well behaved dog and the people who have raised you
give you up it is heartbreaking. How much better can you be for your people
than to be perfect??????
Better pictures will follow.
