11/07/05 - Adopted
Hi Jamie,
A pleasure speaking with you yesterday evening. Dixie, as we are calling
her, is showing even more gradual signs of de-stressing today. The poor
baby slept yesterday almost straight from about 3 p.m. until this morning
when we woke up around 6:00 a.m. We took her for just a short walk early
this morning - so it would be quiet - to relieve herself (so far no
accidents in the house) which went well.
One sign of encouragement is that
while on Saturday, her tail was down between the legs and her ears and head
were down - this morning her ears had totally perked up and her tail was
standing up and even wagging at times. She started eating solid dog food in
earnest this morning, although we are going to keep mixing in some chicken
and rice for another couple of days. We continue to just try to keep the
house relatively quiet and to give her as much love as possible while
letting her relax.
I'm going to fax the paperwork
over to you this morning hopefully before lunch. In the meantime, I've
attached some pictures - I hope that you'll be able to open them this time.
The last one, taken this morning, is my favorite, her snoozing on the
little couch right next to my dog Lester.
Anyway, hope all is well and I'm
sure we'll be in touch soon.
Thanks, Melissa

Meet this wonderful Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog. She was found
running in St. Bernard Parish, LA, with a mate that regrettably we could not
catch. This was about 6 weeks after Katrina hit, so this little female
has had a rough life lately.
She was very scared when first brought in, but in pretty good
condition. She had a vet exam and was vaccinated at intake into the
compound, by Doc Nancy. After some TLC by the great volunteers at
Rebel Field, she was placed in the general population area of the dog
tent. She will need a quiet foster home to help her return to normal
life.
She is a real show stopper and we are sure will make a great addition
to the right family.
