5/23/11 - MEMORIAL

I am very sad to report that our Tyson passed away on 4-30-11.  He wasn't feeling well for a few days, so we took him to the vet.  He had hepatitis, was septic, and he had an anal mass.  Tyson had a lot of blood in his urine and his mouth tumor was bleeding.  His legs were failing too and we could see the pain he was in.  When considering hospitalization with very little chance of recovery, we couldn't do that to our best friend.  We loved him too much to put him through that.

We loved him so much.  We know, though, that he had a good life with us.  He did whatever he wanted wherever and whenever he wanted.  He mainly liked to sleep on his back, bark at everything, and give kisses.  We very much hope he felt all the love we had for him.  I do believe he did.

Thank you for the nearly three years we had with him.  We wouldn't trade it for anything.

11/2008 - Adopted!

9/24/08

We have learned that Dillinger's real name is Tyson. He was turned into the shelter and spent just a few days there until AABR was able to pick him up. Tyson has been in our home for four days and is doing very well. He is a very happy senior boy who loves to spend time with all members of the family. Tyson is housebroken and prefers sleeping on the carpet rather than a dog bed. He's a small guy - I'm guessing in the fifty pound range. He walks well on the leash and knows how to sit. Tyson loves to run in the back yard and romps around like a much younger dog. He is a very quiet dog and is content to simply be with you. Tyson has two growths that will need to be removed before he can make his way to a new home. One is in his mouth and makes it a little difficult for him to eat without making a bit of a mess. The other is on his rear leg and should cause no difficulties at all. Tyson is our first foster, so we're taking introductions to our two dogs slowly to make sure there are no reactions on either side. I know we've said it before, but I can't believe anyone would give up a great dog like Ty. He's as friendly as can be and his tail wags enough to remind me of a propeller. He'd be a great first Boxer for someone - he's old enough to spend quiet evenings hanging out, but still playful enough for fun time. Get your applications in for this boy quickly!

9/15/08 - Dillinger

Meet the newest sweet senior boxer Dillinger. This boy is on the petite side and seems like a happy go lucky little man. When I went to meet him at the shelter, he was very happy to see me and let me pet him all over, tail wagging the whole time. Seniors should not be kept in a kennel, so please offer to foster this guy today, so we can learn more about him.
It is so sad that we don't have enough foster homes but a kennel is better than death. These dogs come from kill shelters and if we did not take them they would get a lethal injection or be put in a gas chamber.

Prior to adoption

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please first read our Adoption Procedure, by clicking on the link at the top of this page, then fill out an online application.

Boxers and Applicants are not matched on a first come, first served basis. Not all applications are approved. On average, it takes between a week and 1 month to adopt a Rescue Boxer to an approved applicant, depending on your personal circumstances and flexibility.

Matching Boxers suitable for placement with younger children, other dogs, cats, and special needs, yours and theirs, increases the application review time and adoption time.

And yes, we realize that the Boxer you may have your heart set on, may be adopted before you're approved.   Should your first choices all ready found their forever home, we want you to advise us as to other dogs you are interested in at Adoptions@AdoptABoxerRescue.com .  Or let us suggest a few that we feel will match your home.  That is what we are good at.   And be happy for the ones that have been placed... and know that there are way too many fantastic dogs waiting in their place.

Our non-profit organization is wholly comprised of hard-working volunteers whose only reward is seeing our wonderful Boxers placed in loving, permanent homes and given another chance for a happy life. Our process may seem slow, but if you are patient, we will try to provide you with a devoted, loving companion - a Boxer.

We hope you feel that the right Boxer is worth waiting for.
