Petey moved into a temporary home while his foster family was on vacation and we now know that Petey should go to a home without cats. Petey is also in need of a new foster home due to unrelated issues.

Petey's a wonderful boy who has been moved around too many times in the last six months. He has done well with most of the dogs he has met and loves people of all ages. If you would like to either foster or adopt Petey, please contact us as soon as possible.

Update - Petey has been neutered and is absolutely ready for his new family to find him. He’s a great dog – full of life and just looking to have fun! He does very well with the children in our house (ages 9 & 13).

Petey LOVES playing in the snow. He runs full speed from one end of the yard to the other. He’s not interested in toys, but has learned to pull treats out if I fill a toy with them. Petey has also learned the down command and walks very well on a leash. He’s a very happy, energetic, enthusiastic boy who sleeps as hard as he plays. He’s really enjoying some of the canned Spot’s Stew donated by Halo. He gets plain dry food in the morning and he takes his time eating it. When we add in the canned at night, he’s just about finished before I walk away!

If you’re looking for a low-maintenance dog who can still keep up with an active family, Petey may be the right dog for you. He’s also eligible for a reduced adoption fee, so please consider this wonderful boy. You won’t regret it!

Petey's HW treatment was just over six weeks ago and now that he's allowed some activity, it's time to get him out and about! He was at a PetSmart event just before the holidays and enjoyed all the attention he received. He was a little nervous, but that's to be expected since he's been cooped up for so long. We'll also be working on re-introducing him to other dogs. Petey is very loving and will cover your face with kisses if you let him. He has recently discovered that belly rubs are a very good thing and likes to lay with his head on my lap. He enjoys his back yard time and lets us know if anyone is walking by. He might look more like a Lab, but his body movements are all Boxer (as is his clumsiness!). He has the Boxer lean perfected. Petey loves his treats and sits nicely for them. It's very obvious that Petey had not had an easy life. He has callusses on his elbows and tail from sitting too long on hard surfaces and we still feel little scabs on his skin even though he's been off the streets for almost three months. He's even missing one of his lower canines. Petey has put some weight back on his frame and could still use another pound or two. He deserves a much better life than what he's had up till now. Will you be the home that can provide the love and attention he deserves?

Petey is recovering nicely from heartworm and enjoying his foster home.  Here's some new pictures of him.

10/23/08 - Petey

Petey is another Heartworm positive dog.  He was found wondering the streets and we could not say no when we were called to help.

Petey is safe in a foster home and will begin his Heartworm treatment next week.

We  have 5 Heartworm positive dogs in rescue now so keep your dogs on Interceptor or Heartgard Plus all year round to protect them!!

Please help with these medical bills so we can save their lives!!!

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please first read our Adoption Procedure, by clicking on the link at the top of this page, then fill out an online application.

Boxers and Applicants are not matched on a first come, first served basis. Not all applications are approved. On average, it takes between a week and 1 month to adopt a Rescue Boxer to an approved applicant, depending on your personal circumstances and flexibility.

Matching Boxers suitable for placement with younger children, other dogs, cats, and special needs, yours and theirs, increases the application review time and adoption time.

And yes, we realize that the Boxer you may have your heart set on, may be adopted before you're approved.   Should your first choices all ready found their forever home, we want you to advise us as to other dogs you are interested in at Adoptions@AdoptABoxerRescue.com .  Or let us suggest a few that we feel will match your home.  That is what we are good at.   And be happy for the ones that have been placed... and know that there are way too many fantastic dogs waiting in their place.

Our non-profit organization is wholly comprised of hard-working volunteers whose only reward is seeing our wonderful Boxers placed in loving, permanent homes and given another chance for a happy life. Our process may seem slow, but if you are patient, we will try to provide you with a devoted, loving companion - a Boxer.

We hope you feel that the right Boxer is worth waiting for.

Adoptions Fee: Please see our adoption info by clicking on the link at the top of this page.
