12/05/08 Mali is doing great and
making wonderful progress with her trainer foster mom. She has made some new
best friends canine and human.
She is housebroken and crate trained. She knows how to sit, down, give
paw, roll over, walk nice on the Leash and how to have fun.
She is sweet and loving with us and will be with her new leader. She is
looking for a take charge kind of leader someone who will not spoil her and
will give her the leadership and guidance that she needs. Mali has many
wonderful qualities that will contribute to the healthy lifestyle she needs
to enjoy. Are you looking for a dog to hang out with? Someone who would love
to lay at your feet while you watch TV? A dog that needs a moderate amount
of exercise (definitely not a marathon jogger at all)? A dog that loves to
play and interact with you? Then Mali is that dog.
Please apply today to adopt Mali. She has been working very hard to be
the right dog for you.

Oh sure, she’s cute.
But Mali had many issues that led her to rescue. With so many emotional and
personality issues, Mali had a meltdown. Because of her issues Mali will not
be placed in a home with any children or grandchildren.
Like any bully breed
Mali needed structure, leadership, and consistency. Without this, many may
become dominant, frustrated, and object possessive. Such was the case with
Mali. Under-exercised, overweight, and babied. This dog was in serious need
of leadership. Mali was permitted to “own” toys, furniture, beds, and
control every aspect of her owner’s life. She was loved
into a monster. This had to be stopped. She was out of control. She had no
leadership so Mali decided that to take control since she had no other
choice.
Mali has been in a
recovery program for about 3 weeks now and has shown marked improvement.
With this being said she is by no means “finished”. As with any recovery
program Mali has a constant battle to overcome old habits and sometimes they
never go away so she is learning to overcome her impulses.
Mali is in foster
with a professional trainer who works with her every day on living in the
here and now. Mali has learned sit, down, leave it, drop it and heel. She is
walking 8 blocks now without her tongue turning purple. She is learning to
meet people without trying to control them. She is learning never ever to
get on the furniture. She is learning never ever to take possession of toys,
food, or her crate. She is learning that
Nothing In Life Is Free (NILIF),
and must be earned. She is learning that
affection is never given out when demanded and is only given when the
leader decides it is earned. Mali is learning that the other dogs have
rights and must be respected as well. Mali is learning to just be a dog, no
worries, no concern about who is in charge.
This is a constant
issue and Mali is doing her part to get better. If you are a positive
leader, someone who leads without aggression, without losing patience, and
with a persistent nature, someone who is committed to making a difference in
the way Mali views the world and the people in it, you may be the one Mali
has been waiting for.
