We are sad to advise that Pop passed on yesterday. He did so in the
company of those who cared for him.

Hello everyone please join us in welcoming Pop into our fold. Pop came to
us yesterday from a Philadelphia shelter. His people just dumped him
for being too old and sick to care for any longer, and didn't do the right
thing and be with their life long companion in the last days of life.
Pop is a 14 year old senior boy who is struggling to survive a lot of
illnesses. I don't even know where to begin to list all of physical
problems this poor old soul has. We'll start with the easiest. He has a
corneal ulcer on his left eye that should heal easily with antibiotic and
other ophthalmic drops. He has an upper respiratory infection which may or
may not actually be an infection, but possibly a chest mass, we're praying
for only an infection. He has a ruptured anal sack, which may also have been
caused by a growth, the worst teeth I have ever seen, painful arthritis in
his hind legs, and what the vet thinks might be Cushing's disease. He
is also suffering with skin that is raw, sore, flaky, scabby and itchy.
I know what you're thinking. Why are we not euthanizing this poor boy?
The answer to that question is that we may as yet have to, but we want to
give him one last chance to recover from the misery he has endured. No
heroic measures will be performed on a 14 year old. Just good medicine, good
food, a cozy bed, and lots of TLC and belly rubs.
Despite it all, Pop is still showing surprising spunk. So here he is in
the twilight of his life and we at AABR are holding on for some glimmer of
hope that life can be better for him. That is what we do.
Pop is now a distinguished senior, but was a fine, handsome boy once upon
a time in his youth. This old man is a fighter not ready to give
up. How could we possibly give up on him? Won't you please help us help Pop?
For now we are treating his eye, and his multiple infections with very
expensive antibiotics. If he shows improvement in the next week or so then
we will need to do further tests and decide the course of further treatment.
Please make a donation on Pop's behalf, and on behalf of all the senior
dogs disposed of at local shelters everywhere, because their owners just
don't want to care for them anymore.
And if you have an older dog who has given you a life time of love,
please either educate yourself on how you and your vet can let him live out
his life in reasonable comfort, or be with your friend and comfort them when
the time comes for them to part this world and be put to rest. Do not
leave this up to someone else to do for you. Do the right thing.
Pop needs your support and most of all your love.
