11/30/10

General is still waiting for his forever home and we are not sure why this fun-loving boy has not been adopted yet.  He loves other dogs, both large and small.  General also enjoys snuggling on the sofa in the evening, playing ball, and walking in the woods.  General is a happy boy and would be a great addition to a home.  Apply today for General!

8/26/10

General has spent much of the summer patiently recovering from surgery to repair a knee ligament. Now six weeks into recovery, everything is looking great - which means that General is once again seeking his forever family. He loves, loves, loves the company of other dogs - large or small and can be found playing or cuddling up to Boxers and French Bulldogs in his foster home. General also loves people and although he has no experience with children and is excited when he first meets new people, he is a big time snuggle buddy. As much as General loves his foster home, he's seen the leaves turning in CT and is looking forward to meeting his forever people before another season rolls by.

09/28/09 - Update

General was adopted as a puppy and returned to AABR four years later due to a combination of unfortunate circumstances. His adopter's ill health meant that she couldn't offer him the guidance, exercise, or socialization that this intelligent boy so desperately needed. Without these things, much loved General took after his name and began to run the house and order his people around like he believed a good leader should. Without a fenced yard to romp around in and blow off steam, General's frustration grew and so did his adopters, until they decided the best thing was to surrender him back to AABR's care.

Realizing that he was long overdue for some socialization and having the weight of his old responsibilities lifted off his shoulders, we sent him off to John Gagnon's pet resort in Cochester, CT for two months where he attended doggy day care each day and ran, played and frolicked with other dogs and learned to be a great dog himself. Now back in the comfort of a foster home, he is more of a lover than a leader, so the name Buddy is now fitting for a dog who's been given the chance of a fresh start.

Buddy loves the company of large and small dogs alike and is very gentle around the French Bulldogs he's sharing a home with.  He is a dog who wants to please you and is happy to have moderate exercise.  Buddy loves to play in the fenced yard. He would love a home with at least one other dog for company and he wouldn't like to be left home alone all day, this will not work for him as Buddy loves companionship. Of course, if you're a full time working home and would like to send him off to your local doggie daycare and bring home a dog that will snuggle with you all evening, he's the perfect dog! Because he became bossy with people in his previous home, we're looking for a home with no children or dog savvy children over 12. He would like to live with confident people who can keep very basic rules in place so that Buddy can sit back and relax, knowing that his adopters have things in hand. A fenced yard is a must so that Buddy can enjoy the outdoors and keep you company in safety while you work on raking all those falling leaves. We don't want to see this great dog without the basic needs to enjoy life. Because Buddy has always known a rural life, a country or suburban setting would work best for him - he isn't a city boy. We do not know how Buddy is with cats. Buddy is house trained and sleeps loose at night. During the day he is crated if left, something he objected to initially but after persuasion with peanut butter filled Kongs, food, and treats, he has come to accept peacefully and enjoy.

Buddy knows his basic obedience commands and would love to learn more if you would like to teach him.  He has done his homework and is now ready to be the best buddy you could imagine.  If you would love to share your life with Buddy, he would love to meet you in his foster home near New Haven, CT - where he is now an ambassador for AABR teaching young boxers to play nicely and have good manners.

Buddy was fortunate enough to be sent to doggie camp thanks to the generosity of donations.  This was as vital to his recovery as veterinary care is to physically sick or injured dogs.  If you aren't in a position to adopt Buddy or another dog, please consider a donation however small, that can be applied towards the cost of their rehabilitation.  Just click on our PayPal link and mention which dog your donation is for, or mail a check with the dog's name included.  Buddy thanks you for his new life!

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please first read our Adoption Procedure, by clicking on the link at the top of this page, then fill out an online application.

Boxers and Applicants are not matched on a first come, first served basis. Not all applications are approved. On average, it takes between a week and 1 month to adopt a Rescue Boxer to an approved applicant, depending on your personal circumstances and flexibility.

Matching Boxers suitable for placement with younger children, other dogs, cats, and special needs, yours and theirs, increases the application review time and adoption time.

And yes, we realize that the Boxer you may have your heart set on, may be adopted before you're approved.   Should your first choices all ready found their forever home, we want you to advise us as to other dogs you are interested in at Adoptions@AdoptABoxerRescue.com .  Or let us suggest a few that we feel will match your home.  That is what we are good at.   And be happy for the ones that have been placed... and know that there are way too many fantastic dogs waiting in their place.

Our non-profit organization is wholly comprised of hard-working volunteers whose only reward is seeing our wonderful Boxers placed in loving, permanent homes and given another chance for a happy life. Our process may seem slow, but if you are patient, we will try to provide you with a devoted, loving companion - a Boxer.

We hope you feel that the right Boxer is worth waiting for.
