8/29/09 - MEMORIAL
It saddens us to say our sweet Marcus passed peacefully away on Tuesday afternoon. His suffering ended as he was surrounded by the love of AABR. Marcus was a stray found in the streets in New York and we knew he was in ill health.  We would not turn our backs on this sweet, gentle dog. We did all we could for our boy, but in the end we knew it was time for his passing. All dogs go to heaven and that is where sweet, sweet Marcus will be waiting for AABR when it is our time.  Rest in peace sweet boy.  Thank you to all who cared and helped Marcus.

The Last Battle

If it should be that I grow frail and weak and pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then will you do what must be done, for this -- the last battle -- can't be won.
You will be sad I understand, but don't let grief then stay your hand,
For on this day, more than the rest, your love and friendship must stand the test.
We have had so many happy days, you wouldn't want me to suffer so.
When the time comes, please, let me go. Take me to where to my needs they'll tend,
Only, stay with me till the end. And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see. I know in time you will agree
It is a kindness you do to me. Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I have been saved. Don't grieve that it must be you
Who has to decide this thing to do;
We've been so close -- we two -- these days,
Don't let your heart hold any tears.

In Loving Memory of Marcus

Marcus is in real need of a hero!

Summer is the absolute worse time for needing foster homes... Everyone is on vacation except for the poor dogs that need rescue.  Marcus is sitting in an animal hospital after going there for some tests.  He is probably closer to 12 yrs old than the original estimate from the shelter, and he should be resting comfortably in a foster home, not alone in a hospital kennel.  We are determined to give this guy the best life possible for what ever time he has.   BUT we need your help.

PLEASE! If you've already had your vacation, Marcus needs a break.  Please be Marcus's hero!

8/4/09 - In foster

Poor Marcus was so sick with the cold he had. He was hospitalized for not eating and running a high fever. The vets did not think he would make it. They even suggested it would not be the wrong thing if we did not go on with treatment. We decided to give Marcus the shot at life he deserves.

Marcus is now out of the hospital and in a foster home.  He is eating and feeling much better.

Please help with his medical expenses by clicking on the paypal button or sending a check.

His foster mom wrote:

I picked up Marcus Friday afternoon, pouring down rain and bumper to bumper traffic, but I was determined I was getting him. I got him snacks, blankie, toys, and was ready. Marcus was amazing, he was so thin, had a sad look in his eyes, but he got right in my car, laid down on the seat and was quiet and good the entire 1 1/2 hours back to my house. He immediately went into the yard and did his business, (good boy). I set up a crate, but after a day, realized, I don't need a crate for him. He is quiet and sweet, and loving and all I want to do is put some meat on his bones and get him to his forever home. He loves the dog food I bought him, and he licks the bowl when he is done. He loves my mom's home made cookies too. He doesn't like pills, so I went out and bought a pill crusher, a little plunger, mix them with water, put in the plunger and he takes his pills. Anything I can do to spoil him and make him happy, I will do it. Marcus is a great dog, and I am going to give him all the love and happiness he can have until he is ready to go to his forever home.

7/28/09 -

Marcus is an adorable male boxer found as a stray in the city and estimated to be around 9 years old.  He came from the city shelter system with kennel cough and has spent a week at our vets office.  He needs a short term foster home without any other dogs so he can get over his cough without giving it to others.  Then we have a foster home who said they will take him.

He showed no reaction to the other dogs at the shelter and was great with all of the people he met.

We will update his page once we know more about him.

Thank you for your interest in this sweet senior boy!

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please first read our Adoption Procedure, by clicking on the link at the top of this page, then fill out an online application.

Boxers and Applicants are not matched on a first come, first served basis. Not all applications are approved. On average, it takes between a week and 1 month to adopt a Rescue Boxer to an approved applicant, depending on your personal circumstances and flexibility.

Matching Boxers suitable for placement with younger children, other dogs, cats, and special needs, yours and theirs, increases the application review time and adoption time.

And yes, we realize that the Boxer you may have your heart set on, may be adopted before you're approved.   Should your first choices all ready found their forever home, we want you to advise us as to other dogs you are interested in at Adoptions@AdoptABoxerRescue.com .  Or let us suggest a few that we feel will match your home.  That is what we are good at.   And be happy for the ones that have been placed... and know that there are way too many fantastic dogs waiting in their place.

Our non-profit organization is wholly comprised of hard-working volunteers whose only reward is seeing our wonderful Boxers placed in loving, permanent homes and given another chance for a happy life. Our process may seem slow, but if you are patient, we will try to provide you with a devoted, loving companion - a Boxer.

We hope you feel that the right Boxer is worth waiting for.
