10/13/09 - Update

Sandy has been in foster with us for 3 weeks now and she is settling in.  This poor girl is hand shy and doesn't like quick movements.  I don't think she was treated very well at her last home.  She approaches cautiously with her head down.  I must say, though, that I have seen improvements in such a short amount of time.

Sandy craves love and comes to us for attention.  She is so sweet and so gentle.  Dogs always amaze me with their ability to forgive humans and trust again.  Sandy is very submissive.  She is in foster with a male boxer and a male Frenchie - they get along great.  She doesn't really know how to play yet.

Sandy has marks on her paws and she probably spent a lot of time outside at her previous home.  This would explain her reluctance to go out - she may be afraid she won't get back in.  Sandy needs to put on some much needed weight, but she is eating like a champ.  We are working on her basic commands - she knows sit and wait.  Sandy loves to go for walks and is great on leash.  She follows me everywhere and just loves to be around people.

The past two nights, Sandy has been left out of the crate at night to sleep on the pillow with the other dogs and she has done really well!  Sandy is looking for a quiet, calm home.  She would fit in with any dog and if she is an only dog, that is okay also!  She is showing a little bit too much curiosity in the cats at this time, so I would recommend a no kitty home at this time.  Sandy would love to be placed into a home where there is somebody there often - as she just loves to be with people.

Sandy is impossible not to love - she is such a sweet girl!  She is quiet and gentle - she just needs time to come out of her shell.  I get such a warm feeling inside when I'm near her and I know she will bring love and joy to anyone willing to adopt her.  Apply today for Sandy!

Sandy is a sweet girl who was surrendered to the city shelter due to animal control violations. She is spayed and will be brought up to date on all other vet care. Sandy is thin, and could use some groceries and TLC. The shelter staff reported that her whole body wiggled every time somebody walked by her - she LOVES people!! Sandy previously lived with both dogs and cats, and was reported to be great with both! She is in need of a foster home so we don't have to move her to a kennel - please offer to foster or adopt Sandy today!!

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please first read our Adoption Procedure, by clicking on the link at the top of this page, then fill out an online application.

Boxers and Applicants are not matched on a first come, first served basis. Not all applications are approved. On average, it takes between a week and 1 month to adopt a Rescue Boxer to an approved applicant, depending on your personal circumstances and flexibility.

Matching Boxers suitable for placement with younger children, other dogs, cats, and special needs, yours and theirs, increases the application review time and adoption time.

And yes, we realize that the Boxer you may have your heart set on, may be adopted before you're approved.   Should your first choices all ready found their forever home, we want you to advise us as to other dogs you are interested in at Adoptions@AdoptABoxerRescue.com .  Or let us suggest a few that we feel will match your home.  That is what we are good at.   And be happy for the ones that have been placed... and know that there are way too many fantastic dogs waiting in their place.

Our non-profit organization is wholly comprised of hard-working volunteers whose only reward is seeing our wonderful Boxers placed in loving, permanent homes and given another chance for a happy life. Our process may seem slow, but if you are patient, we will try to provide you with a devoted, loving companion - a Boxer.

We hope you feel that the right Boxer is worth waiting for.
