3/7/10 - Betsy's update We adopted
Betsy on the 3rd of October,2009. She was a Puppy Mill girl, and is afraid
of anything and everyone. Betsy chose me as her protector and doesn't let
me far from her sight. We made a Vets appointment to get her chip in right
away, needless to say this was not a pleasant experience for her. The Vet
spent a half hour giving her treats to make up with her. It is taking time
and patience but she is making great progress overcoming her fear of people,
especially men. In December we signed her up for beginning
obedience dog training
classes. We had an excellent teacher, she was very helpful in her
suggestions on how to settle her down. My husband now feeds her and gives
her treats. She is becoming more trustworthy of him - she doesn't run and
hide anymore. She will stand still to be petted by him. We can sit on the
sofa with her between us and he can give her a good loving. It is fun to
watch her outside where everything is new to her. She will eat just about
anything, including my husbands homemade bread. We never have had a dog
that likes apples, bananas, sweet potatoes and carrots. She gets along
great with our cat, they sleep together on the sofa and will even eat off
the same dish. The only thing she doesn't like is for the cat to lick her
nose. The first month she didn't bark at all, now anything that moves
outside she will let us know. She still doesn't do the boxer wiggle but the
trainer said that will come. We take her everywhere with us -she goes to a
nursing home and behaves excellently. The snow is new to her and she
doesn't like it. She doesn't run or jump in it, but will smell it and
sticks her nose all the way in it, she is so funny with a face full of snow.
Betsy has her own personality, she lets us know what she wants. She makes
the most amazing sounds we have ever heard when she wants a treat. We
can't wait for spring to see what she will do in the yard. Later this year
we plan on enrolling her in intermediate dog training classes....Eileen

Betsy has made a lot of
progress in her new home. This girl has gone from a puppy mill to a
loving home, and she is doing great! She recently graduated from
obedience class. New pictures are posted from her class and of Betsy just
relaxing on the couch. This is what we hope for with each of the puppy
mill boxers that we are able to rescue.
October 2009 - Adopted!

Meet Betsy! She is a two year old fawn boxer who was rescued from a
Lancaster County puppy mill just last Saturday afternoon. The miller
released her because she wasn’t producing for him. The last litter was too
small (in number) and they were born with mange. It is no wonder the puppies
were in poor condition. Upon getting medical treatment, it was found that
Betsy had an ear infection, mange, and a variety of worms. She is responding
well to all medication. I am certain that when she goes for her recheck, she
will be given a clean bill of health. Betsy was also spayed while at the
vet.
Typical of puppy mill rescues, Betsy is lacking in socialization and
training. We will be working with her to teach her new skills and her basic
commands. Betsy is currently sleeping on the floor next to my bed, touching
my hand throughout the night. Betsy is doing well with Max, our six year old
male boxer.
Betsy has only known freedom for one week. I feel confident she will be a
wonderful pet someday. Last night, for a brief moment, Betsy picked up
Mr. Frog and tossed him in the air and did the boxer stomp on the toy. This
morning she stayed with us as we did some yard work. She even ran laps
around the yard kicking up her heels! She looked so happy - we stopped our
work to watch her.
Betsy will require a home that can provide positive reinforcement and
structure. She will need a patient, loving family. Apply today if you
can give Betsy the forever family she deserves!

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please first read our Adoption Procedure,
by clicking on the link at the top of this page,
then fill out an
online application.
Boxers and Applicants
are not matched on a first come, first served basis.
Not all applications are approved. On average, it takes
between a week and 1 month to adopt a Rescue Boxer to an
approved applicant, depending
on your personal circumstances and flexibility.
Matching Boxers suitable for placement
with younger children, other dogs, cats, and special
needs, yours and theirs, increases the application review
time and adoption time.
And yes, we
realize that the Boxer you may have your heart set on, may be adopted
before you're approved. Should your first choices all ready
found their forever home, we want you to advise
us as to other dogs you are interested in at
Adoptions@AdoptABoxerRescue.com . Or let
us suggest a few that we feel will match your home.
That is what we are good at. And be happy for the
ones that have been placed... and know that there are way too many
fantastic dogs waiting in their place.
Our non-profit organization is wholly comprised of hard-working volunteers whose only reward is seeing our wonderful
Boxers placed in loving, permanent homes and given another chance for a happy life. Our process may seem slow, but if you are patient, we will try to provide you with a devoted, loving companion - a
Boxer.
We hope you feel that
the right Boxer is worth waiting for.
