6/14/10 - New pictures!

Thanks to AABR, I went for my MRI and the Doctor said I have a Syringohydromelia. I know it sounds scary, but it is a fluid sack in my spinal cord which I was probably born with. The Doctor said no medicine or surgery. I would have a full life and generally do well, but with the ataxia. I can still play with dogs and people and do all normal activities. I just have this funny wiggle when I walk and look a little clumsy when I run, which I think adds to my charm. My foster mom says I am the best dog ever..so sweet and easygoing. I am just a happy go lucky boy. Please look past my abnormal gait and consider giving me a forever home.

My name is Ashton and I am a very good boy. I had a family once but they dropped me off at the shelter one day because I walked funny. They said I would fall a lot and fall into the children and the other dog. I really try not to, but I do not seem to have full control over my hind legs. I went to this great temporary foster home with 3 cats and another dog to play with. My foster mom said I was the best foster dog she ever had. I am now in my new foster home and have made friends with my foster brothers and sisters. My foster mom tells me that she thinks I am the best, and any family will be lucky to have me in their life.

My foster mom brought me to the doctor to find out what the problem is with my legs. The Doc says it looks like something is wrong with my spinal cord. I am going to need an MRI, which is really expensive (at least $2000). Please help AABR pay for my expensive medical treatment by sponsoring me.

4/25/10 -

Ashton was initially found as a stray by a shelter in North Carolina, and adopted out to a family with 2 children and another dog. After a month, the family returned him back to the shelter because he had wobbler type symptoms of his back legs.

The shelter contacted AABR to see if we could help this sweet boy. Ashton was flown to NY by pilots and paws, and is in a temporary foster home with another dog and three cats. The abnormal gait does not appear to affect his quality of life. Ashton is a very handsome, sweet, and playful boy. We will update his page once we know a little more about his abnormal gait. Please consider sponsoring Ashton!

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please first read our Adoption Procedure, by clicking on the link at the top of this page, then fill out an online application.

Boxers and Applicants are not matched on a first come, first served basis. Not all applications are approved. On average, it takes between a week and 1 month to adopt a Rescue Boxer to an approved applicant, depending on your personal circumstances and flexibility.

Matching Boxers suitable for placement with younger children, other dogs, cats, and special needs, yours and theirs, increases the application review time and adoption time.

And yes, we realize that the Boxer you may have your heart set on, may be adopted before you're approved.   Should your first choices all ready found their forever home, we want you to advise us as to other dogs you are interested in at Adoptions@AdoptABoxerRescue.com .  Or let us suggest a few that we feel will match your home.  That is what we are good at.   And be happy for the ones that have been placed... and know that there are way too many fantastic dogs waiting in their place.

Our non-profit organization is wholly comprised of hard-working volunteers whose only reward is seeing our wonderful Boxers placed in loving, permanent homes and given another chance for a happy life. Our process may seem slow, but if you are patient, we will try to provide you with a devoted, loving companion - a Boxer.

We hope you feel that the right Boxer is worth waiting for.
