9/23/12 - MEMORIAL I have sad news -
we lost Cesar on 8/30/12. I first met Cesar in May 2010 when I fostered
him. He was a skinny and not too handsome dude. He was nervous and afraid
of everything. He was out in the yard with Sadie and the neighbor's Jack
Russell Terrier rushed to the fence barking as he always does. Cesar jumped
in the air and almost knocked me over trying to get between my legs for
comfort. He eventually got used to the barking, but never barked back.
He hated to go outside in the dark for fear that I wouldn't let him back
in - he liked the warm house and soft beds. We changed that by giving him
treats when he went outside without any issues and when he came back in. He
then started to go to the door whenever he wanted a treat.
Cesar loved squeaky toys and he would play by himself for hours. He
would take his bone and throw it in the air so he could pounce on it. He
loved to nip at Sadie's back legs and tail, because she would then play with
him. He would stand over my crossed legs so I would rub his belly with my
foot. He loved kids and would give the twins the softest butterfly kisses.
Cesar came into his own a month after fostering - he let me be the alpha
and started to relax. I knew I couldn't put him through another adjustment
period, so I asked if I could adopt him. He was just the funniest dog - he
would make faces when eating something for the first time. Sadie likes
vegetables and when I presented Cesar with a baby carrot, he looked at
me like I were crazy - the lips went up and he couldn't get it out of his
mouth fast enough. Sadie was waiting for that and she gobbled it up. Cesar
thought it over and decided that if Sadie would eat them, then maybe they
weren't so bad.
With love and good food, he became a handsome boxer and he knew it. He
was always so proud of himself when he conquered a new experience. I miss
him at the front window, paws spread out on the back of the sofa, curtain
thrown back, and him so happy that I was home. Sadie misses her bud - they
played a lot and kept each other company. We both miss our "big baby boy."
