4/5/11

Lucky has learned basic commands and he loves to show off for treats. He has gained some confidence and is much more relaxed. He needs to be the only dog in a house that is calm and quiet. Young children make him nervous. He loves toys and can entertain himself for hours, throwing and chasing them. He can not be crated or contained in a small area. He has free reign of the house and does fine.

Lucky is very loyal to the people he trusts, but it does take him time for him to warm up to people. Lucky needs a fenced yard or someone that can take him on long walks several times a day. He loves to be outside and will walk a couple miles at a time. He loves to snuggle close and will sleep for hours.

Lucky is in urgent need of a new foster home.  His current foster home is not allowed to have dogs where she lives, and they have given Lucky a week to find a new place to go.  Lucky can not go into a kennel - he was incredibly scared and frozen with fear at the shelter and he really needs to be in a home.  Please contact us soon if you are able to provide a foster or forever home for Lucky!

7/15/10

Lucky is not the same dog that arrived last month. He does take a bit to warm up, but then he is happy to get attention. Lucky needs a strong leader to give him reassurance. He still gets nervous around young kids who are running ,jumping, and noisy. Lucky would do best in a home with older kids only. He has free roam of the house all day and doesn't get into anything. Lucky is completely house trained, but is not crate trained. He does not like to be confined and that causes him anxiety. Lucky loves to go for rides and will sit by the car waiting patiently. He would do best in a home with a fenced yard because he LOVES to be outdoors. We walk over 3 miles per day and he would walk more. Lucky is great on a leash and wonderful with other dogs. Lucky has been neutered and microchipped. He went to the vet today and she thinks his actual age is around 7 due to his body condition and teeth. She said Lucky is in excellent shape. Lucky would love to find his forever home - apply today!

6/11/10 -

His name is "Lucky", and yesterday was not his lucky day. After several loyal years with his family, he was dumped at the city shelter which is taking on average 100 animals a day right now. Lucky was very scared at the shelter. He was surrendered because "they could not afford him anymore." Lucky is very skinny. He previously lived with children and a Chihuahua. We introduced him to a Shepard/husky mix, and he did great. Lucky seemed more comfortable when another dog was around him. He also did fine with his cat test.

Lucky's temporary foster home indicates that he is a sweetheart. This guy has no idea he is a senior! He has more spunk than some dogs half his age. Lucky loves to be outside and he probably would do best with a fenced yard where he can run and play. Lucky does well on the leash, but does pull at times. He is good with other dogs walking by and he seems to want to play. Lucky is looking for a calm household with someone home part of the day. He has met my 7 yr old neighbor and his tail didn't stop wagging, but he does get nervous with sudden movements or noise. He would probably do best in a home with older kids. My niece is 19 and he adores her - Lucky follows her around the house. I do think this boy may have had an owner with a heavy hand because he cowers in the corner if he thinks he is in trouble -it's heart breaking. He doesn't know any commands and is not crate trained, but we are working on that. This boy just wants someone calm to love him and he will be your loyal companion. Apply today to foster or adopt Lucky!

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please first read our Adoption Procedure, by clicking on the link at the top of this page, then fill out an online application.

Boxers and Applicants are not matched on a first come, first served basis. Not all applications are approved. On average, it takes between a week and 1 month to adopt a Rescue Boxer to an approved applicant, depending on your personal circumstances and flexibility.

Matching Boxers suitable for placement with younger children, other dogs, cats, and special needs, yours and theirs, increases the application review time and adoption time.

And yes, we realize that the Boxer you may have your heart set on, may be adopted before you're approved.   Should your first choices all ready found their forever home, we want you to advise us as to other dogs you are interested in at Adoptions@AdoptABoxerRescue.com .  Or let us suggest a few that we feel will match your home.  That is what we are good at.   And be happy for the ones that have been placed... and know that there are way too many fantastic dogs waiting in their place.

Our non-profit organization is wholly comprised of hard-working volunteers whose only reward is seeing our wonderful Boxers placed in loving, permanent homes and given another chance for a happy life. Our process may seem slow, but if you are patient, we will try to provide you with a devoted, loving companion - a Boxer.

We hope you feel that the right Boxer is worth waiting for.
