4/7/11 - MEMORIAL

Today was a sad, sad day for our family as we lost our sweet baby girl, Buttercup.  She was put to sleep with me petting her this morning at the hospital where she had been for over 8 days. She was beating cancer only to have an unrelated serious GI problem befall her.

We'll never learn her date of birth, who had cared for her for much of her life, how she became a stray, or her first-given name.  But there are many things I'll remember about Buttercup & here are 10 of them:

1.  Her eager look and bright vibrant eyes and her smiling face as she and I ran around the park treeing squirrels (she anticipated each morning walk with "dancing" vigor);

2.  Buttercup's love of napping on the bed in our guest bedroom while we were at work (a leisure activity she taught Bruno);

3.  Buttercup's tail!!! She didn't need a boxer butt wiggle with her long talkative tail;

4.  Her bark!  She would demand-bark for treats when we came home from work (something she also taught Bruno!); and her three-part bark that sounded like Rooooh'-Ooooooh-Ooooooh always made me laugh;

5.  Buttercup playing with Bruno.  She loved to growl in his face with tail wagging and chase him around.  When he'd try to take charge, the boxing would commence.

6.  Her love of doggie treats and peanut butter (I gave her spoonfuls of PB to fatten her up when we first got her);

7.  Teaching Buttercup sign-language commands when she was going rapidly deaf after we first got her and then watching her adjust to her silent world with actual happiness (and with some calmness too because she could know what we wanted by our signals and that allowed her world to remain predictable);

8.  Her love of people and of most dogs too (she made lots of friends at the local park including a rescue dog from Hurricane Katrina, LeRoy); she really had the sweetest personality;

9.  Buttercup greeting me every morning by coming to the side of the bed.  Her sweet face and wagging tail were often the first images of my day; and,

10. Buttercup either slung over the back of a living room chair or sitting on the back of it looking out our front window taking in all the sights of the neighborhood.

Buttercup was an awesome dog.  She is sorely missed.

8/2010 - Adopted!

8/2/10

Buttercup is now in foster with a male dog and a cat, and she is doing great! She walks awesome on a leash and stays either right by my side or a little bit behind me. I'm sure that someone must have trained her at some point. She seems to really like the couch and just wants to lay around, which is great for me and Champ! She did see Phil, my cat, for a few minutes and seemed curious, but not too interested. When he darted away, she ran after him, but quickly lost interest. I'm sure she could adapt fine in a house with a cat. She is full of kisses and her whole body wiggles. Buttercup is a gentle girl that would fit into almost any home. Apply today for Buttercup!

7/26/10 -

Buttercup was found as a stray and is estimated to be around 5 years old. She is reported to be very sweet with people. Buttercup will be going into a foster home soon, and we will update her page once we know more about her.  Thank you for your interest in Buttercup!

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please first read our Adoption Procedure, by clicking on the link at the top of this page, then fill out an online application.

Boxers and Applicants are not matched on a first come, first served basis. Not all applications are approved. On average, it takes between a week and 1 month to adopt a Rescue Boxer to an approved applicant, depending on your personal circumstances and flexibility.

Matching Boxers suitable for placement with younger children, other dogs, cats, and special needs, yours and theirs, increases the application review time and adoption time.

And yes, we realize that the Boxer you may have your heart set on, may be adopted before you're approved.   Should your first choices all ready found their forever home, we want you to advise us as to other dogs you are interested in at Adoptions@AdoptABoxerRescue.com .  Or let us suggest a few that we feel will match your home.  That is what we are good at.   And be happy for the ones that have been placed... and know that there are way too many fantastic dogs waiting in their place.

Our non-profit organization is wholly comprised of hard-working volunteers whose only reward is seeing our wonderful Boxers placed in loving, permanent homes and given another chance for a happy life. Our process may seem slow, but if you are patient, we will try to provide you with a devoted, loving companion - a Boxer.

We hope you feel that the right Boxer is worth waiting for.

Adoptions Fee: Please see our adoption info by clicking on the link at the top of this page.
