10/3/10 Ellie had a very bust weekend!
On Friday, she got to visit my parents and their senior cocker spaniel...and
all of their neighbors and one of their dogs. Ellie did great! She was a
little nervous when we arrived, but warmed up very quickly and was zooming
through their house by the time we were leaving. She was warned off by the
cocker and avoided her the rest of the afternoon. She was even good when we
got stuck in traffic for an hour due to an accident.
On Saturday, we headed out to an AABR event where Ellie met Miley,
another AABR available dog, and Gumbo, one of our alumni. She and Miley did
very well together, as you can see in the picture.
On Sunday, we took a trip to Petsmart to see how she did there. Other
than backing away from the carts, Ellie wanted to see and meet everyone. I'd
say she is definitely feeling much more comfortable than she was two weeks
ago. I'm also including a picture of Ellie with her foster brother, Turbo,
trying to nap in my son's bed. Ellie is learning that spending time alone is
OK and that outside is the preferred place for potty breaks. She's eating
well and has already gotten bigger. I hope her new family finds her soon,
because they are missing out on some great puppy moments!

Ellie has been spayed and is
ready for her forever home! She spent a few hours hanging out with her
foster brother, Turbo, last night and he is in love! Ellie is a timid
girl and it takes her some time to become comfortable in new situations.
She is working on socialization, crate training, and housetraining. We
will update her page soon with her progress! Ellie is a very loving,
kissy, sweet, and gentle girl! Thank you for your interest in Ellie!

Ellie arrived in her foster home late last night and settled in quickly.
She was a bit unsure about the changes in her life, but was soon wiggling
away and giving kisses to everyone. Ellie and her sister were surrendered to
AABR when their family had an unplanned litter of puppies and could not find
homes for them all. As we get to know Ellie better, we'll post additional
updates. She will be spayed this week and will then be available for
adoption.
Puppies require a lot of work, so make sure you are committed and ready
before you apply! To be considered for a puppy, you must have the time and
energy to work on socialization and housebreaking. Somebody should be home
enough to accommodate the needs of a puppy this age, having the patience and
will to train these pups. We are sorry, but we will not consider a home with
children under the age 5 as we know the commitment and time that puppies
require. Please have the time and resources to meet their needs. If you do
not have an appropriate home for a puppy or are not interested in a young
puppy, PLEASE CONSIDER ADOPTING AN OLDER DOG - we have so many awesome older
dogs also in need.

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please first read our Adoption Procedure,
by clicking on the link at the top of this page,
then fill out an
online application.
Boxers and Applicants
are not matched on a first come, first served basis.
Not all applications are approved. On average, it takes
between a week and 1 month to adopt a Rescue Boxer to an
approved applicant, depending
on your personal circumstances and flexibility.
Matching Boxers suitable for placement
with younger children, other dogs, cats, and special
needs, yours and theirs, increases the application review
time and adoption time.
And yes, we
realize that the Boxer you may have your heart set on, may be adopted
before you're approved. Should your first choices all ready
found their forever home, we want you to advise
us as to other dogs you are interested in at
Adoptions@AdoptABoxerRescue.com . Or let
us suggest a few that we feel will match your home.
That is what we are good at. And be happy for the
ones that have been placed... and know that there are way too many
fantastic dogs waiting in their place.
Our non-profit organization is wholly comprised of hard-working volunteers whose only reward is seeing our wonderful
Boxers placed in loving, permanent homes and given another chance for a happy life. Our process may seem slow, but if you are patient, we will try to provide you with a devoted, loving companion - a
Boxer.
We hope you feel that
the right Boxer is worth waiting for.
