11/21/10 Petey has put on some much
needed weight and is looking great! He is completely housebroken and has
really settled in well at his foster home. Petey does need to learn basic
commands (sit, lay etc) and now that he is settled in and can focus, we are
having a blast doing training ... he will do anything for a treat! He also
walks very well on a leash and enjoys long outings along nature trails- he
will initially stop to sniff every bush and needs to be moved along, but
then he hits stride! His energy is moderate and he has a fantastic
temperament (confident and balanced... not skittish in any way). Petey has a
fabulous curiosity and sense of humor, and he just loves to play. He
navigates the house with ease, stairs included. I am most impressed with the
way he has folded into the existing pack. He is a very loving dog and always
wants to be with you. Petey will lay at your side without moving, for hours.
He is just a joy to have around.

Petey went missing yesterday (10/16/10) from his foster
home in the Roland Ave/Kenwood RD area of Baltimore, he apparently escaped
through an open window. He has not been seen since.

Petey is now in a foster home
with two other boxers, and he is settling in very quickly! His foster
mom reports that he gets in and out of the car with minimal guidance and he
handles stairs like a champ. It didn't take Petey long at all to get a
mental map of his new home! He greeted the other two dogs with lots of
nub wags, and is even starting to play and "box" with them. He also
likes to squeeze in between the other two dogs on the dog bed when he is
ready for a nap. Since being in a home, his confidence is increasing
and he is becoming a very social boy.

Petey was transported to the
vet's office yesterday and he was very scared and confused. He was unsure of
what was happening and was trembling on the transport. After exploring the
backseat, he curled up and slept most of the ride. Petey's previous
owner sent his favorite blanket and toy with him - it was very hard for him
to send Petey to rescue, but he knows we will find this boy a wonderful,
forever home.
Petey had already been neutered and he is now up to date on all vet care.
He will have to go to the kennel tomorrow until we can find a foster home
for him. If you have ever considered fostering, please offer this boy a safe
and loving home. Petey is going to be very scared in the kennel. We have
mentors in the rescue who have worked with several blind dogs and would be
happy to offer guidance if you are interested in fostering or adopting
Petey. He will need some time to acclimate to his new environment, but can
lead a normal, happy life as any other dog! Please apply today to foster or
adopt Petey.

Petey's owner lost his job and then his home. He contacted his
local shelter for help with finding a new home for Petey. Since Petey
is blind, they knew he would be very confused in a shelter environment, so
they reached out to AABR for help.
Petey will be coming to rescue in a few days. He will visit our vet
first to be neutered and brought up to date on everything. We will
then schedule an appointment with an ophthalmologist. Our only option
for Petey right now is the boarding kennel, but he really needs a home to go
to. His owner reports that Petey has been very confused with all the
changes in his life recently. Please open up your home to this boy in
urgent need. He previously lived with another boxer and is reported to
be good with dogs, cats, and children.
Blind dogs do not require any special skills on the part of the foster or
adoptive home. They learn their way around quickly, they love going
for walks, they are wonderful companions and their hearts are filled with
just as much love as any other Boxer. Please contact us soon if you are able
to help Petey!
