Hank continues to do well in foster. He celebrated his 3rd birthday with a doggie birthday bash where all his doggie friends joined him for the celebration! Hank has been with AABR for 9 months now. We are sure that homes hesitate due to his Diabetes Insipidus, but it is well managed. Diabetes Insipidus is a metabolic disorder, characterized by excessive urination and accompanied by undue thirst, not related to sugar diabetes.

Hank is a normal dog. He is on Desmopressin, which is administered twice daily by injection under the skin (just like insulin). Hank knows the routine and sits like a good boy to receive his meds - he is truly an awesome dog!

Hank actually loves his crate and even crates himself! He is super on leash and loves to cuddle with humans or dogs! Please consider Hank for your home. You can email his foster mom directly with any specific questions at pam@adoptaboxerrescue.com

4/5/11

Hank, fondly referred to as Doodlebug by his foster mom, has been with AABR for 6 months - unbelievable! Hank is super cute and very friendly. He is just a super dog! Hank came from harsh conditions in a puppy mill environment. A puppy mill is a large-scale commercial dog breeding operation where profit is given priority over the well-being of the dogs. Unlike responsible breeders, who place the utmost importance on producing the healthiest puppies possible, breeding at puppy mills is performed without consideration of genetic quality. This results in generations of dogs with unchecked hereditary defects. Puppy mill puppies are typically sold to pet shops—usually through a broker or middleman—and marketed as young as eight weeks of age. The lineage records of puppy mill dogs are often falsified. Hank was a stud for a puppy mill and they discarded him when they realized he was excessively urinating. They did not provide vet care and try to treat him.

Can you imagine forcing your pet dog to live his or her entire life in a small wire cage with no human companionship, toys, or comfort - and little hope of ever becoming part of a family? That is what life is like for a puppy mill breeding dog. That was Hank’s life until AABR rescued him! How many puppies are descendants of Hank’s? How many are ill? This is a sad reality of that cruel world! Help us stop this cycle of cruelty that contributes to pet overpopulation and the suffering of countless dogs. Adopt a homeless dog like Hank today!

3/14/11

Hank continues to thrive with his foster family. He has turned into a typical young boxer. He loves to play, run, bark, wiggle with excitement, and seems to have a fetish for Uggs (LOL)! Hank displays the same fun antics of any young boxer. He thrives on the company of other dogs with his same energy, but settles right down and snuggles with the ones that don’t want to play. He has learned that when Mommy says No she means No and is beginning to understand other commands.

Hank’s Diabetes Insipidus is well managed. Diabetes Insipidus is a metabolic disorder characterized by excessive urination and accompanied by undue thirst, not related to sugar diabetes. This condition is so treatable and in Hank is under control. He is a normal dog. Hank is on Desmopressin, which is administered twice daily by injection under the skin (just like insulin). His dosage has recently been reduced to a minimal amount, which greatly decreases the cost to $38.00 a month for his therapy. He consumes normal amounts of water and is able to “hold it”. Won’t you consider this awesome dog to be part of your family?

12/13/10

Hanker Doo is ready for his own home. He has blossomed into a great dog and we love him so much! When he joined our family, he was a scared, lost, skinny, sad boy who had really had it rough in his previous life. He was afraid of everything. But that did not last long. Hank is playful and loves to give hugs and play with other dogs. He is great with all dogs, big and small. He is also wonderful with people. Hank has learned to respect the house cats, but we would not leave him unattended with them. He is great on the leash and a good eater when it comes to food. All Hank needs is someone who is willing to give lots of love, affection, time, and patience.

Hank recently joined the rescue group for a day of photos with Santa Paws. He did great. He had a spa day with strangers and was a champ. Hank has discovered that chasing squirrels is a great past time and he runs through the yard, determined to make them scatter. He loves to watch the world pass by in his favorite spot in the window and it makes the perfect backdrop for the song, “How much is that doggie in the window?” He loves to snuggle with his foster brother and he makes himself as tiny as possible to squeeze in alongside of him!

When Hank was surrendered by a very unkind breeder, that breeder didn't know why anyone would want Hank because he was urinating everywhere. We have since discovered that Hank has Diabetes Insipidus. This is a metabolic disorder characterized by excessive urination and accompanied by undue thirst, not related to sugar diabetes. It is a relatively rare and rarely diagnosed disease but in Hank we were able to recognize the symptoms, test him, and get a true diagnosis of a very treatable condition. Hank is on Desmopresson, which is administered twice daily by injection under the skin (just like insulin). Hank now consumes normal amounts of water and relieves himself outdoors appropriately.  Hank’s medicine is about $75.00 a bottle and his forever home has to commit to this therapy every 12 hours, as he can not live normally without this. He must have plenty of fresh water available at all times and receive his medicine every 12 hours and he will live a long, happy life! Hank is a true sweetie who wants to snuggle his way into your life!

11/10/10

Hank continues to do well in his foster home. He LOVES his foster family, especially the K9 members that he can play with. He walks beautifully on lead and Hank loves his Wubba toys, tennis balls and ropes. Hank has learned how to communicate with his foster mom on how to inform her it is time for a potty break and has mastered the feeding routine established in his home. He sleeps in a VariKennel in the master bedroom and is able to hold it through the night. Hank's forever home would be best if someone worked from home or was home during the day like his foster family as Hank is not a fan of being crated for long periods (unless it is bed time, because at times he "can't hold it".

Hank is one of the sweetest dogs I ever met. He is a snuggle bug - when he is not playing with the others, he is snuggling with them!! Do you have what it takes for Hank? If so, apply today!

10/12/10 -

Hank is a soulful dog who lived a harsh life at the unkind hand of a farmer. Hank cowers to the world, but is learning love and trust from his foster family and taking the lead from his boxer buddies. Hank is super sweet, walks well on leash, and is learning that the new surroundings are safe, not harmful. He is learning that meeting new people is a good thing, and warms up quickly once he feels safe. Hank is great with the three other boxers in his foster home. He is very sweet and loving - please apply today to give Hank a forever home.

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please first read our Adoption Procedure, by clicking on the link at the top of this page, then fill out an online application.

Boxers and Applicants are not matched on a first come, first served basis. Not all applications are approved. On average, it takes between a week and 1 month to adopt a Rescue Boxer to an approved applicant, depending on your personal circumstances and flexibility.

Matching Boxers suitable for placement with younger children, other dogs, cats, and special needs, yours and theirs, increases the application review time and adoption time.

And yes, we realize that the Boxer you may have your heart set on, may be adopted before you're approved.   Should your first choices all ready found their forever home, we want you to advise us as to other dogs you are interested in at Adoptions@AdoptABoxerRescue.com .  Or let us suggest a few that we feel will match your home.  That is what we are good at.   And be happy for the ones that have been placed... and know that there are way too many fantastic dogs waiting in their place.

Our non-profit organization is wholly comprised of hard-working volunteers whose only reward is seeing our wonderful Boxers placed in loving, permanent homes and given another chance for a happy life. Our process may seem slow, but if you are patient, we will try to provide you with a devoted, loving companion - a Boxer.

We hope you feel that the right Boxer is worth waiting for.
