Looking for a home with older children - over 8 years

12/29/10

Jasper continues to do really well in his foster home. He just finished his heartworm treatment, and will be neutered following his six month check up as long as no further treatments are needed. Jasper is doing great with both the male and female boxers in his foster home. He has been becoming more and more playful and energetic. We recently had our 8 year old niece spend the night and Jasper did really well with her, respecting all of her commands.

Jasper will need a home that can be patient with him as he learns household rules/manners/commands. He is a fast learner and is very eager to please. Jasper quickly learned not to jump up on people and instead sits patiently in front of you for attention. He is not much of a barker, unlike other boxers we know (own) :) He really loves being around people, so would be ideal for somebody who is home often. Jasper is very sensitive to loud noises and reprimands, so would be best for a home with older children. He tends to be frightened easily and if given too stern of a reprimand, will roll over and show his belly in submission. Jasper loves to cuddle with whoever is on the couch. He seems to be able to get comfortable anywhere (as you can see from the pictures). Jasper deserves a wonderful home.  Apply today for this sweet boy!

Jasper has been great with both dogs in his foster home, a male and a female. At one point when space on the couch was at a premium, he snuggled up between the other male and his foster dad and laid his head on the other boxer. He doesn't appear to feel threatened by the other dogs or show any interest in asserting any particular rank with the group. Even when the other 2 boxers are running around and playing together, their bursts of energy or excitement don’t seem to phase him at all. He seems to prefer to be with people over other dogs and he loves human attention.

Jasper started his heartworm treatment on November 10th, so he has to be walked on a leash for at least the next month and cannot be allowed to run and play. Since arriving in his new foster home, Jasper has been opening up and exploring more. His favorite thing is to snuggle with people. He hasn't had any accidents since he arrived. Jasper is very cautious with stairs, so he probably never had exposure to them and as a result, he is not very coordinated making his way up and down them. This is improving with each day.

Jasper is a really great dog and just a love! He wants to be where you are and asks to be petted a lot when he is not snuggling on the couch with someone. He probably never knew a lot of human loving and desperately desires it. He is also content to lay at your feet as well, but will follow you if you leave the room. He is very friendly with strangers. He will no doubt make some lucky forever family very happy as dogs do not get much more loyal than Jasper.

Jasper is doing very well and is slowly coming out of his shell and being more outgoing. He has the most expressive eyes and just wants to be held, loved, and petted. He is improving with his housebreaking.  When he is scolded, he hunkers to the floor as if he has been beaten. It is very sad, and after he hunkers down - he comes to his person and gently puts his paws on them and looks adoringly into their eyes like he is begging for attention.  His sad eyes always seem to be looking to you for acceptance. Jasper is still thin, but is slowly gaining weight. He is just a sweet, sweet boy and is truly a pleasure. He gets along great with other female dogs, but has not been tested with other males. He likes balls, but won't bring them back to you! Jasper starts his Heartworm Treatment tomorrow. This is truly a Boxer boy you will easily fall in love with!!

11/06/10 -

Jasper and Kristie were surrendered to a shelter in the south about a week apart. Jasper was surrendered because his owner lost his job and he could not care for him anymore. He is estimated to be around 3-4 years old. Kristie came from the same owner and she was surrendered because she would not produce puppies anymore. She didn't have a name prior to coming to rescue because the owner didn't feel she needed one.

When Jasper was at the vet's office today, they found him to be heartworm positive, so he will be going through treatment prior to being neutered. Please offer to sponsor Jasper today to help pay for his medical care! He will be going into a foster home soon, and we will update his page with new pictures and information as soon as his foster mom gets to know him better.

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please first read our Adoption Procedure, by clicking on the link at the top of this page, then fill out an online application.

Boxers and Applicants are not matched on a first come, first served basis. Not all applications are approved. On average, it takes between a week and 1 month to adopt a Rescue Boxer to an approved applicant, depending on your personal circumstances and flexibility.

Matching Boxers suitable for placement with younger children, other dogs, cats, and special needs, yours and theirs, increases the application review time and adoption time.

And yes, we realize that the Boxer you may have your heart set on, may be adopted before you're approved.   Should your first choices all ready found their forever home, we want you to advise us as to other dogs you are interested in at Adoptions@AdoptABoxerRescue.com .  Or let us suggest a few that we feel will match your home.  That is what we are good at.   And be happy for the ones that have been placed... and know that there are way too many fantastic dogs waiting in their place.

Our non-profit organization is wholly comprised of hard-working volunteers whose only reward is seeing our wonderful Boxers placed in loving, permanent homes and given another chance for a happy life. Our process may seem slow, but if you are patient, we will try to provide you with a devoted, loving companion - a Boxer.

We hope you feel that the right Boxer is worth waiting for.
