3/6/11 - Happy Beginning! On February
26, 2011, we adopted Dobby (formerly known as
Legolas) from AABR.
Dobby is our first rescue and we, as a family, couldn't be any happier. It
has truly turned out to be an amazing experience for us. He is the sweetest
dog with the best temperament and has quickly become a full fledged member
of our family. After we lost Ben, our
Bernese Mountain Dog, I wasn't sure that I would ever be able to love
that way again. Dobby proved me wrong and he has made his boxer sister,
Lucy, incredibly happy. She was so lonely, she just didn't seem to have
the lust for life that we were used to. Lucy is so happy to have a friend
to play and run with and our children adore Dobby. Since all of our dogs
were acquired as puppies, we weren't sure how Dobby would adjust. We have
been amazed with how well he has made our home, HIS home. He has been the
best addition to our family and I don't think that we will ever get bored of
all the Dobby kisses.
Thank you so much AABR for allowing us to give Dobby a new and happy
beginning.

Meet our new friend, Legolas - affectionately called "Legs". Legs has
come to us from a city shelter where his previous owners surrendered him
because he just had too much energy for the amount of time the family had to
dedicate to him. Legs is a wonderfully fun boy, and definitely has the
energy level of a 1 yr old boxer. This
energizer bunny can
keep going for sure, but he does settle down when corrected for going over
the top. He gets along very well with the other dogs in our home and they
play well together. He LOVES to run, so a fenced yard will be a must! He is
curious about our resident doves, but doesn't pay them too much attention.
Our resident cats are another story. He can't get enough of the cats, and I
do need to keep a close eye on him when they are about. After a few scary
initial meetings, he seems to be starting to understand that they are not
toys, and must be treated with respect. I think eventually he will be fine
with them, but caution is the word in the early going.
Legs did great at our latest Petsmart event, where he met a number of
dogs and a steady stream of kids. He seemed very happy to meet them all and
a number of the kids got a free face wash courtesy of our boy, Legs! He is
young and needs to be kept active. He loves to chase a ball and it is even
better if it's one he can chew on after the chasing is done. He's a great
"kid" and knows some basic commands. Legs just needs a good family to
teach him the rest. He is house & crate trained, and goes right in the crate
for his meals or a treat. For now, he sleeps in his crate as well.
He's a real joy to have around! Hurry & get your application in for this
guy. He's going to have a lot of fans and you don't want to miss the chance
to bring him home with you! |

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please first read our Adoption Procedure,
by clicking on the link at the top of this page,
then fill out an
online application.
Boxers and Applicants
are not matched on a first come, first served basis.
Not all applications are approved. On average, it takes
between a week and 1 month to adopt a Rescue Boxer to an
approved applicant, depending
on your personal circumstances and flexibility.
Matching Boxers suitable for placement
with younger children, other dogs, cats, and special
needs, yours and theirs, increases the application review
time and adoption time.
And yes, we
realize that the Boxer you may have your heart set on, may be adopted
before you're approved. Should your first choices all ready
found their forever home, we want you to advise
us as to other dogs you are interested in at
Adoptions@AdoptABoxerRescue.com . Or let
us suggest a few that we feel will match your home.
That is what we are good at. And be happy for the
ones that have been placed... and know that there are way too many
fantastic dogs waiting in their place.
Our non-profit organization is wholly comprised of hard-working volunteers whose only reward is seeing our wonderful
Boxers placed in loving, permanent homes and given another chance for a happy life. Our process may seem slow, but if you are patient, we will try to provide you with a devoted, loving companion - a
Boxer.
We hope you feel that
the right Boxer is worth waiting for.
