10/23/11 George is doing well and
putting on some much needed pounds. He is still looking for his forever
home, though. George is extra work, but he is a good dog - which makes it
easier. He loves other dogs and would really like to have a doggie
companion.
If you are interested in George, I would encourage you to join this Yahoo
Group dedicated to mega-E,
http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/megaesophagus/ There is a lot
of good information and it will help you understand the condition and what
to expect.

George was taken from the
shelter and quickly adopted out. After he was adopted, he was
diagnosed with Mega- esophagus - a condition where he needs to be fed in a
certain way. George is the best dog you could ever meet. He loves kids and
enjoys playing with other dogs. He is the hit of the ER hospital where
he was to have surgery to correct what we thought was correctable. It turned
out that after a scope, George has regular Megaesophagus, which surgery can
not repair.
The good news is that he didn't have to undergo a very risky and painful
surgery. The bad news is that he has a condition that needs to be
managed and cannot be corrected. Please help George - he needs a foster home
that can feed him just like Eve (AABR's mascot). George is in good
shape otherwise. He is housebroken and loves to play with his toys. He
is cute and wiggly and other than his feedings, he is a normal boxer.
For the next two weeks, to give his esophagus a break and allow it to
heal, George has a feeding tube placed. Once he is released from the vet
hospital, George has nowhere to go. Please help him by offering to
foster him or supporting his medical bills. George's bills - after all
the testing, the cardiologist appointment, echocardiogram, and ultrasound -
are around $2500.
AABR's vet bills have been staggering as we have been hit harder this
past summer than any other time. It is getting harder and harder
to help all of the boxers in need. Thank you to all of our supporters
- it is only through your donations that we are able to continue to help
dogs like George.

George has been diagnosed with
persistent right aortic arch, which is a form of megaesophagus that can be
surgically corrected. We have received an estimate from the University
of Pennsylvania and his surgery will cost between $3000 and 3500. Most
dogs do very well following the surgery. Please help us raise the
money to help George and become a sponsor today!

George is now in a foster home! An update will be posted once his
new foster mom gets to know him better.

Unfortunately, George is
coming back into rescue due to an undiagnosed medical condition that arose
immediately after he was adopted. He began regurgitating his food and was
subsequently brought to the vet. George currently has a working diagnosis of
Megaesophagus. We say this because although it is obvious on xray that his
esophagus is dilated, it is not absolutely clear if this is his primary
problem or something that happened that then caused this and the condition
may go away. Regardless, right now we are urgently looking for a foster that
is home enough during the day to get 4 smalls meals into him. He has lost a
significant amount of weight due to vomiting and is at the point where it is
URGENT that we get him into an environment where we can get some weight on
him.
George has truly one of the best personalities you could ask for. He is
very well trained and loves kids. Please, if you think you might be able to
be his hero, he will be forever grateful. We need a foster IMMEDIATELY
before he becomes so thin that it is dangerous to have him outside of a
hospital setting. He has literally nowhere to go after tomorrow.

George is a beautiful 2 year old brindle boy who found himself stray,
scared, and alone in NY. After over a week in the shelter waiting for his
owners to come, he was finally released to AABR's care. Unfortunately, an
extended stay in the shelter has left him with a nasty case of kennel cough.
Despite being extremely under the weather, he still wags his little nub in
circles when you talk to him and demonstrates that he has mastered the boxer
lean. He is crate trained and housebroken. The shelter reported that he was
uninterested in other dogs, even a bit "timid" although he did not have a
formal evaluation. He didn't bother any of the cats either when we were
surrounded by them in the shelter.
George appears to have been someone's pet at some time because he was
already neutered when he was brought to the shelter. George is a sweet young
boy just looking for a forever home who will never let this beautiful boy
get lost again!
