8/12/11 You might think that things
couldn't get any worse for little Kylee, but unfortunately they have. About
two weeks after Kylee's surgery, she began to have seizures. She's seen a
neurologist and was tested for a portosystemic shunt (PSS) of the liver (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portosystemic_shunt
The test came back inconclusive and she will need to be retested in 2-3
weeks. If she indeed has a PSS, surgery can be performed to fix the PSS and
that would likely stop her seizures. However, if the results come back
negative, it is likely she has epilepsy and will be treated as an epileptic
dog. This means the main course of treatment will be controlling her
seizures with medication, which she will need for the remainder of her life.
The types of seizures that Kylee has are not the normal type of seizures
that might come to mind. She has what are called complex, partial
seizures -or psychomotor seizures. These seizures are characterized by
behavioral disturbances. There is not much information regarding these types
of seizures in dogs, but this website gives several descriptions of these
types of seizures,
http://www.canine-epilepsy-guardian-angels.com/Psychomotor.htm
While none give an exact description of Kylee's seizures, each have
several of the behaviors Kylee exhibits during her seizures. Kylee is just
the sweetest little girl. She doesn't deserve any of this. Please
don't overlook Kylee. She does need a special home, but seizures can
be brought under control and she can live a long, happy life.

Life has taken a drastic turn for Kylee. One moment she is a healthy,
happy go lucky pup traveling with her family and the next moment she is
lying broken in a hospital in constant pain. Kylee's family was in a car
accident and Kylee was not wearing a seat belt and was injured because of
it. She received several lacerations needing repair, as well as a broken
leg. Kylee was transported to an ER hospital where they splinted her leg and
mended her cuts. Because the home could not afford to pay the bill, they
released her ownership to the local humane society.
Kylee is now a member of the AABR family. She is in the hospital, where
they will attach a bone plate to repair the break. Kylee will have full
recovery over time. Kylee now needs the help of her AABR family and friends
to get her back in one piece.
Kylee is a very sweet girl, just 5 months old. She should heal well with
some help from each of us. If you'd like to send her a little financial band
aid and a get well message, please use Paypal or mail a check. Every little
bit helps, however small, and we can all put Kylee together again. If you
are interested in adopting this sweet girl, apply today!

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please first read our Adoption Procedure,
by clicking on the link at the top of this page,
then fill out an
online application.
Boxers and Applicants
are not matched on a first come, first served basis.
Not all applications are approved. On average, it takes
between a week and 1 month to adopt a Rescue Boxer to an
approved applicant, depending
on your personal circumstances and flexibility.
Matching Boxers suitable for placement
with younger children, other dogs, cats, and special
needs, yours and theirs, increases the application review
time and adoption time.
And yes, we
realize that the Boxer you may have your heart set on, may be adopted
before you're approved. Should your first choices all ready
found their forever home, we want you to advise
us as to other dogs you are interested in at
Adoptions@AdoptABoxerRescue.com . Or let
us suggest a few that we feel will match your home.
That is what we are good at. And be happy for the
ones that have been placed... and know that there are way too many
fantastic dogs waiting in their place.
Our non-profit organization is wholly comprised of hard-working volunteers whose only reward is seeing our wonderful
Boxers placed in loving, permanent homes and given another chance for a happy life. Our process may seem slow, but if you are patient, we will try to provide you with a devoted, loving companion - a
Boxer.
We hope you feel that
the right Boxer is worth waiting for.
