09/17/12 Ana Pola - Memorial
Life had not been easy to Ana Pola when she finally made it to AABR at age
10. A lifetime of living outside, poor conditions and lack of medical care
took their toll on this little girl's body, but not her spirit. For a year,
Ana Pola did nothing but delight her foster family with her smile and
constant wiggle. No one told Ana Pola that she was a senior so she did
nothing to act her age. Every picture of Ana showed just how happy this
beautiful little senior was. In her last few months, she was diagnosed with
both degenerative myelopathy and cardiomelopathy. After fighting hard to
stay with us, it was time to let this little angel cross the bridge. Shortly
before she passed, she was officially adopted by her foster family, but
really, she was part of the family from the day she walked through their
door.
Ana Pola was one of those special girls that makes you smile just knowing
she's there. She is deeply missed by her foster family and everyone in the
AABR community that loved to see her funny little smile in picture. Her
family was sad to see her go but will be eternally grateful that they were
given the chance to give Ana Pola everything she deserved for her last year.
Fostering or adopting a senior is the most rewarding thing you can do.
God sped Ana Pola. We love you.

Ana Pola is one of the
outstanding seniors. She came to AABR after a pretty tough life, but has
never been anything but kisses and wiggles. Unfortunately, Ana got two
pieces of bad news recently. After 9 months in foster, Ana was diagnosed
with both Degenerative Myelopathy (DM) and cardiomyopathy. Both of these
diseases are terminal. The DM is causing her to lose control of her back
legs. She will soon need a cart to help her get around. At the same time,
Cardiomyopathy is all too common in boxers. She is currently on several
medications to help control her heart and keep her stable. Despite all of
this, Ana is a very happy senior lady. She still loves to go out and sit on
the lawn to say hi to folks passing by. She loves the other dogs in the
house and struggles to keep up with them. Ana is a special girl and the
reason we do what we do at AABR. Please consider supporting AABR so we can
continue helping dogs like Ana.

new foster home

Ana Pola is in need of a new
foster home. She would do best in a home without a lot of stairs due to a
previous knee injury. Ana is very sweet and just craves attention from

Ana Pola
is doing wonderful in her new foster home. She is learning that when she
goes out to potty, that she will be able to come back in and not be left
outside. She uses a doggie door and does great. Ana Pola has free roam of
the house when we are at work and has not touched or chewed anything. She is
currently living with a submissive male boxer and is doing wonderful with
him. Don’t let her age fool you. She loves to play ball and go for
nice easy walks and play with our friends female Lab. She has gone on 2 mile
walks and does just fine. She gets excited when the leash comes out and will
pull a little. Boy does she love car rides! She will talk to you when she
wants your attention. Usually a nice quiet, low key howl and a long growl,
which is hilarious! Her back end is a little wobbly so a home with carpet
and very few stairs would be best for her. She adores children and has shown
NO aggression with anything, but can be female dominant. All she wants is a
little attention, a little exercise, and she’s down for the count. Give her
a nice soft bed and you will never know you have a dog in the house.

Ana Pola is now in a foster home!

Ana Pola is doing great in
her temporary foster home. She is a very friendly girl. She lives with four
other dogs and does fine. She loves hanging with people most of all. Her
little nub NEVER stops wagging. Her teenage foster brother has nicknamed her
"wiggle-butt". Ana doesn't need long walks or a lot of exercise. She is just
looking for a home to call her own. Please consider fostering or adopting
Ana Pola today. You won't regret it!

Hi! My name is Ana Pola! I am
hanging out with my temporary foster parents until I can find a foster or
forever home. I guess my story is sad, but I don't really dwell on those
things. I lived with a guy for a long time. They called him a hoarder. I
really don't know because I spent most of my life outside in a small cement
yard. It got pretty cold out there in the winter and hot in the
summer. I didn't get to go in much and the kids in the neighborhood used to
come by and tease me. That wasn't very nice. I used to bark at them, but
after living outside for about 9 years all the time, someone complained so I
got to stay in the house more. It was warmer there, but it really wasn't
much better. I know my dad tried, but he couldn't really take care of me.
Then one day the bank said we had to leave because they were taking my dad's
house. My dad couldn't keep me so he took me to a place that had a lot of
dogs that all looked very sad. The lady there said because I was 10 years
old, I would have to be put to sleep. Not sure what that meant but it didn't
sound good. But then my dad's neighbor heard about AABR. My dad was happy
that I had a safe place to go. Someone named "volunteer" came and picked me
up. They gave me lots of baths, treats, and a nice warm bed. She said I
could stay until I found a foster or forever home.
I'm pretty happy where I am. There are other dogs to play with (even
little ones!) but I think I'd like to find my forever home. I heard them
call me a senior. Not sure what that means, but I love to run and play. My
foster mom tells me I'm very healthy, but I need a house without lots of
stairs to climb because sometimes my knees get sore. I love people and going
for walks. I am also a pretty good snuggler and for some reason whenever I
smile, everyone says "I'm adorable". Go figure! So if you know of any
forever homes that want a senior with lots of spunk still left and a good
lap for snuggling, please send them my way! I'll be waiting!

What a happy beautiful senior
girl Ana Pola is! She came to AABR this weekend because her previous owner
lost his home. While she did have a dad that loved her very much, he did not
have the means to take care of her. Most of Ana's life she has not had the
type of care that we feel a boxer needs. She lived outside for most of the
time in an urban, cement "backyard."
When Ana came to us, she was infested with fleas to the point where her
skin was infected from constant flea bites. She also has some arthritis and
possibly an old knee injury that has likely been painful over the years. But
despite all of that, Ana Pola just couldn't be a happier, more friendly
girl. She is currently living in a temporary foster home with 5 other dogs,
boxers and smaller dogs, and is doing just great. Her nub never stops
wiggling and she wants nothing more than to curl up next to you, give you
boxer kisses, and get lots of petting.
Her fleas are now gone and she's not so itchy. Ana is on medication
for the skin infection. Due to her age, there is not much that can be done
about the knee injury other than not letting her jump from high distances,
etc. We are already seeing some improvement after just a couple days of
quality food and joint supplements. Additionally, she walks well on the
leash.
As you can see from the pictures and video, she is a very sweet girl. At
the vets office, everyone fell in love with her. Even the kitties tried to
"hold her hand". We believe she is house-broken. She did have a few
accidents her first day in foster, but by keeping her to a schedule she has
not had an accident since. She loves to play in the yard and watch the "big"
boys run around but mostly, she just wants to be loved. Chances are, if you
are a human in Pola's house and you happen to look down, she'll likely be at
your feet, looking up with her little snaggle smile and wiggling her little
nub just in case you wanted to say "hi."
At AABR, we have a soft spot for the seniors. This girl is no exception.
Cold cement, fleas, poor diet, and no medical care were all part of Pola's
past - but we know that the time she has left can be so much better. Please
help us make sure Pola's future is the best it can be!

Ana Pola is coming to AABR because her owner lost his home to
foreclosure. With nowhere left to go for himself, he is in the difficult
position of having to give up his dog of 10 years. Although Pola's former
owner tried his best, her quality of life has not been great. She has spent
much of her life outside in an urban yard behind a chainlink fence. She's
been a mom in the past, but was spayed several years ago. Pola hasn't had
much in the way of obedience training, although she does appear to be
housebroken and good on a leash. With all this, she is by far one of the
sweetest senior girls we have ever met. She absolutely loves people and
cannot wait for you to lean down to give you a kiss or if you don't come
down to her, she'll jump up and give you an "air kiss".
Someone forgot to tell Pola she is a senior citizen because she is just
full of energy and wiggles. Her former owner tells us she is good with cats,
kids, and dogs. We saw her interact with a little dog and she was just all
wiggles. We will be bringing her into a temporary foster soon and will know
more about how she does with dogs, etc in the coming week. Please, please
consider fostering or adopting Ana Pola. We know she deserves a warm place
to rest her head and a happy home to call her own in her final years. This
is one very special girl.
