2/7/12 -

Gavin passed away peacefully at home with his foster mom by his side.  He will be missed by all who were lucky enough to meet him.  Thank you to his foster mom for providing wonderful care and a loving home for this sweet and gentle boy.

12/12/11

Gavin is doing excellent in his foster home. He recently visited the cardiologist, where he was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. Gavin has started medication for this and is responding well. Now that he is on medication, Gavin is getting a little more exercise.  He loves to go on short walks and is great in the car. Gavin adjusts quickly to new things and is great with both male & female dogs. He is also fine with my cats. Gavin barks very little, but he can sure snore pretty loudly!  Gavin tolerates the crate fine, but he doesn't need to be crated too often.

Gavin loves to be a part of the action and does not want to miss a thing. He will sit on his hind legs for 15 minutes at a time while just being petted & loved on. He is the most easy going boy and just goes with the flow. Gavin would do best in a home that doesn't have a lot of steps due to his vision.  He  has the best personality and is just a giant teddy bear. Gavin has been around children ages 2-12 and he is wonderful with them. He would make a great addition to just about any family that is willing to love him.

9/13/11

Gavin has seen the ophthalmologist. The good news is that Gavin is not completely blind. He does have some vision in his left eye. The inflammation and infection that most likely caused him to go blind was untreated years ago and is no longer causing problems. No medications are required and there is no surgery to correct his vision loss. Gavin does not consider this to be a disability at all - he is very well adjusted.

Gavin was a hit yesterday at the vet's office - everybody had lots of great things to say about him. He got many compliments on how handsome and well behaved he was. Gavin is going to be a wonderful boy for a lucky family.  Apply today if you are interested in providing a forever home for Gavin!

8/27/11

Gavin is settling in well at his foster home. He is getting along great with his foster sister, a female boxer. He is a huge lover and very affectionate. Gavin's appetite is as big as his heart. This sweet boy will sit for hours just to have your hand on him. He would do well in any type of household. We will be scheduling an appointment soon with an ophthalmologist to check his eyes, and will post an update after his visit.

8/21/11

Gavin has been transported to our vet's office, where he will be neutered and brought up to date on all vet care. It appears as though he is losing his vision, so we will be having his eyes checked by an ophthalmologist once he settles into his foster home.

The temporary foster home that kept Gavin prior to his transport indicated that he is just the sweetest boy! Gavin did well with the cats and the other dogs in her home. He loves to give his paw when you ask him to sit. Gavin just soaks up any attention that he is given.

Gavin will be going to his new foster home soon and we will post an update and new pictures once we learn more about him!

8/12/11 -

Gavin was found as a stray. The shelter indicated that he was picked up in the same area where Beryl and Carla were found a few weeks earlier. We suspect there may be a puppy mill or backyard breeder in this area. Gavin is estimated to be around 7 years old. He will be neutered soon and brought up to date on all vet care. Gavin is an adorable boy with a great boxer face! He has done really well with all the other dogs he has met at the shelter. Gavin is in need of a foster home. Apply today to foster or adopt this cute boy!

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please first read our Adoption Procedure, by clicking on the link at the top of this page, then fill out an online application.

Boxers and Applicants are not matched on a first come, first served basis. Not all applications are approved. On average, it takes between a week and 1 month to adopt a Rescue Boxer to an approved applicant, depending on your personal circumstances and flexibility.

Matching Boxers suitable for placement with younger children, other dogs, cats, and special needs, yours and theirs, increases the application review time and adoption time.

And yes, we realize that the Boxer you may have your heart set on, may be adopted before you're approved.   Should your first choices all ready found their forever home, we want you to advise us as to other dogs you are interested in at Adoptions@AdoptABoxerRescue.com .  Or let us suggest a few that we feel will match your home.  That is what we are good at.   And be happy for the ones that have been placed... and know that there are way too many fantastic dogs waiting in their place.

Our non-profit organization is wholly comprised of hard-working volunteers whose only reward is seeing our wonderful Boxers placed in loving, permanent homes and given another chance for a happy life. Our process may seem slow, but if you are patient, we will try to provide you with a devoted, loving companion - a Boxer.

We hope you feel that the right Boxer is worth waiting for.
