Special Needs: Broken Leg

9/13/11

Scooter's x-rays revealed a long oblique spiral fracture. He underwent surgery today and came through with flying colors. Scooter now has a pin in his leg, which will be removed in several months.  The orthopedic surgeon expects him to make a complete recovery.  Scooter will be back at his foster home tomorrow and will have a 6-12 week recovery ahead of him. He will need to be kept very quiet during this period and is not allowed to do any steps or playing. Scooter is available for adoption now to a home that can continue his care through this recovery period. We do not feel a home with very young children is appropriate for him at this time due to the care required following surgery.

Scooter has spent time in two different foster homes, and both have commented about what a really wonderful puppy he has been. Housetraining has been very easy - Scooter has not had a single accident in either home. He does great in the crate and has a very sweet disposition. Scooter is quite content to be in your lap or snuggled up against your neck.

With all this puppy has been through, we want a committed, forever home for him. This home should have the time and experience that a young puppy needs. Apply today if you are interested in Scooter - we would be happy to answer any questions about his care.

9/8/11 -

We received an urgent phone call from a local vet indicating that a 10 week old boxer puppy was scheduled to be euthanized today because of a broken leg from an accident. The breeder had signed over her puppy to the vet because she could not afford the medical expenses for his surgery. We could not let this young puppy be euthanized - he has so much ahead of him.

Scooter joined AABR this evening and has arrived at his temporary foster home. He is scheduled to see an orthopedic surgeon on Monday to evaluate his injury and have his surgery completed as soon as possible. Even though Scooter is in a great deal of pain, he is very sweet and his nub moves nonstop. Scooter loves the three other dogs in his new home - he just wants to give them kisses and be close to them. Scooter is on crate rest right now and is handling that with no problems.

Scooter needs your support to help with his medical care - please sponsor this sweet boy today!  Once his surgery has been completed, Scooter will be available for adoption.  With his wonderful disposition, he surely won't be available very long!  If you are home enough for a puppy this age and can help him through his recovery, apply today for Scooter.

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please first read our Adoption Procedure, by clicking on the link at the top of this page, then fill out an online application.

Boxers and Applicants are not matched on a first come, first served basis. Not all applications are approved. On average, it takes between a week and 1 month to adopt a Rescue Boxer to an approved applicant, depending on your personal circumstances and flexibility.

Matching Boxers suitable for placement with younger children, other dogs, cats, and special needs, yours and theirs, increases the application review time and adoption time.

And yes, we realize that the Boxer you may have your heart set on, may be adopted before you're approved.   Should your first choices all ready found their forever home, we want you to advise us as to other dogs you are interested in at Adoptions@AdoptABoxerRescue.com .  Or let us suggest a few that we feel will match your home.  That is what we are good at.   And be happy for the ones that have been placed... and know that there are way too many fantastic dogs waiting in their place.

Our non-profit organization is wholly comprised of hard-working volunteers whose only reward is seeing our wonderful Boxers placed in loving, permanent homes and given another chance for a happy life. Our process may seem slow, but if you are patient, we will try to provide you with a devoted, loving companion - a Boxer.

We hope you feel that the right Boxer is worth waiting for.
