Max had his surgery on January 17th and after only a day, he was back home and horsing around! Max had his jaw removed back to his first molar. The margins on the tumor were clear, so Max is CURED! You might ask yourself - how he can eat, play or even drink...well, I assure you, he can do all of those things just fine! He does best with larger kibble and does make a little bit of a mess with water, but that is what paper towels are for!! Max loves his stuffy toys, he throws them up in the air and tries to catch them!

As far as Max's personality...well, there really aren't words to describe how AWESOME this dog is. He has lots of energy, is extremely playful, but also loves to snuggle in bed with you. He is good with big dogs and small and would be fine with cats. If you are looking for the best dog around, Max is your man! Apply today!!

Max was evaluated by the oncologist yesterday at the University of Pennsylvania. The surgeon believes that he can perform Max's surgery and have it be curative. He will go back next Monday for a consult with a whole team of dental surgeons and we will get all the particulars on the actual surgery and aftercare, which will involve losing a good portion of his mandible.  His surgery is scheduled for 1/17 and the estimated cost is $2500-$4000. You can help Max by donating to his care.  Thank you for helping Max!

12/16/11 -

World, meet Max! This strapping young fellow is a lovebug. Max was surrendered to the shelter when his family realized they couldn't afford his care. You see, this poor boy has a large mass growing in his mouth that is disfiguring his lower jaw and teeth. He has been to the vet and a biopsy was done, but we are still waiting for the report. Max will be going to the University of Penn to see specialists so that a determination can be made as to how best care for his problem. AABR is committed to doing whatever is necessary for this beautiful boy.

Max is currently in foster care with 5 other dogs and has made best friends with the resident deaf Great Dane. They love to run and play together in the yard. Max is currently eating a soft food diet, which he manages nicely. He can also drink without a problem and he gives lots of sloppy Boxer kisses too. Max knows all his basic commands and is very eager to please. This is one very well behaved boy.

We can estimate that Max's medical bills will be in the thousands and any help towards his care would be greatly appreciated. Won't you please help sponsor Max by making a donation in his name. Max sure would appreciate it!!

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please first read our Adoption Procedure, by clicking on the link at the top of this page, then fill out an online application.

Boxers and Applicants are not matched on a first come, first served basis. Not all applications are approved. On average, it takes between a week and 1 month to adopt a Rescue Boxer to an approved applicant, depending on your personal circumstances and flexibility.

Matching Boxers suitable for placement with younger children, other dogs, cats, and special needs, yours and theirs, increases the application review time and adoption time.

And yes, we realize that the Boxer you may have your heart set on, may be adopted before you're approved.   Should your first choices all ready found their forever home, we want you to advise us as to other dogs you are interested in at Adoptions@AdoptABoxerRescue.com .  Or let us suggest a few that we feel will match your home.  That is what we are good at.   And be happy for the ones that have been placed... and know that there are way too many fantastic dogs waiting in their place.

Our non-profit organization is wholly comprised of hard-working volunteers whose only reward is seeing our wonderful Boxers placed in loving, permanent homes and given another chance for a happy life. Our process may seem slow, but if you are patient, we will try to provide you with a devoted, loving companion - a Boxer.

We hope you feel that the right Boxer is worth waiting for.
