AABR Boxer

Reilly is doing great in his new foster home. His OCD is under control, and he loves his large fenced yard. He is a sweet boy and loves his foster family. Included are some updated pictures.

Reilly is a very nice 2.5 yr old male boxer (We just learned that he was born on 10/30/09), who has been diagnosed with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. His foster family has been working with him, a veterinarian specialist, and a trainer, and we have seen progress. But they have 3 young children and a very busy house which is not conducive to controlling the behaviors. Sadly, we've found out that Rambo has been in many different homes since he was a puppy.

He needs a nice quiet home without young kids or other dogs. He is very good with the foster family's young kids, but the activity level is too high. He was chasing his tail, starring at lights and shadows, and licking tile floors on a regular basis. On Prozac for the past 3 weeks, the behaviors are greatly diminished, and he can now be re-directed and he'll stop the behavior. A boxer savvy home would be helpful.

If you can foster Reilly for a few weeks until the meds have time to take affect, and can help him with behavior modification, you will truly be saving his life. We are confident that with a bit more time and training, we will be able to find this guy his forever home. Reilly is comfortable in a crate, as his foster mom writes below.

Hi Sandy,

Riley seems to be responding to the medication. His spinning and floor licking has subsided by about 75%. He still does get set off by the door, dogs, lights, sun or shinny things, but we are able to redirect him. I understand you are still looking for another foster family or forever home. I was wondering if there is something I can do? I would be happy to write about how wonderful he is and how he is fully house trained and seems to show no signs of being unhappy when left in the crate. In fact, I sometimes find him in there with the door open just laying around or hiding his toy!

He is a love but our decision to return him still stands as we all agree that this is not the right placement for Riley. The thought of him going to a kennel is as heartbreaking for Andrew and I as us giving him up. This decision is probably one of the most difficult I have EVER had to make. I believe my families transition in returning him would be easier if we in fact knew he would be placed in a loving home rather than a kennel. I understand it is AABR objective to place all dogs but you must agree our Riley is a special case. He has been bounced around enough in his short 2 1/2 years.

He is a wonderful dog and would be a wonderful dog for a family. He is loving, sweet, loyal, playful and a very good boy. (never on the furniture or has never chewed a thing!) If there is anything we can to to help with finding him a foster or forever home please let us know.

Rambo recently went to a new foster home in New York. Our volunteer that went to meet him prior to his move indicated that Rambo is a great boy who is a quick learner. He is very motivated by toys. Included are two new pictures.

Rambo is a good boy and will listen when told come or off. He still needs a lot of work with his leash training and basic commands. Rambo's foster home is working on his housebreaking and is teaching Rambo that the crate is not such a bad thing. He does like to gobble his food quickly, so his foster mom uses some tricks to get him to slow down. Rambo doesn't like to be alone - it makes him nervous. He will need a home willing to work with him or someone who is home often to alleviate his fears.

Rambo loves to run around with a ball in his mouth and bark! When he is bored or he catches a glimpse of his tail, he chases it to the point that he loses control of body movement. It may be cute for a second, but in reality - it’s something he did to kill time in a bad situation so his foster family makes him stop and plays with him to distract him from it. He loves to play fetch, although he doesn’t always bring it back to you - but he will bring it somewhere close enough for you to walk over to him.

Rambo has just started to give kisses and approaches anyone he comes in contact with. He does the occasional jumping up, but when you correct him - he gets it. He has been around children 8 years and up and has done fine. Rambo does not engage in play with the other boxer yet in his foster home. He would do fine as an only dog where he can get all the attention that he has surely missed his whole life. If you are committed to working on basis commands and manners, and can be around for Rambo most of the day - this beautiful boy is in need of you.

Rambo is a 2 year old male boxer who was surrendered to the shelter because his owner did not have the time to devote to him. He is in need of a home where he will get lots of attention and exercise. Rambo is partially housebroken and needs to be crated when left alone. He likes other dogs, plays well with children, and loves car rides. Rambo will be going to his foster home soon and we will update his page once we know more about him.
