It has been a month since Brutus arrived at the kennel.  Please offer to foster this wonderful boy so we can get him back into a home environment.  He does well with easygoing female dogs and has also been around smaller dogs.  Brutus absolutely loves being with people and he looks forwards to his walks and visits at the kennel.  Apply today to help Brutus!

6/25/12

Brutus is such a devoted boy and loves to be around people. I have watched this boy come such a long way in 6 weeks. Everybody that has met him has fallen in love with him right away. He was getting free run while I was working due to the fact he does not do well in his crate. Brutus does not like to be 'blocked' off, but with free run he would lay on the couch and wait for me. Brutus is wonderful on his leash and will do some basic commands. He truly is a great boy and will make somebody very happy. Brutus has shown a little too much interest in the cats, so would do best in a home without cats. He got a bath the other night and was so happy and such a good boy - he looked at me as to say thank you, I feel so much better. Please don't let his impaired vision be a concern because it doesn't impact him. Brutus can still see, but he seems to have more trouble with things close up than at a distance.

Brutus did well with the other female dogs in his temporary foster home, small and large, but he and the resident male boxer did not do well together. For this reason, Brutus had to be moved to our boarding kennel over the weekend.  He is in urgent need of a new foster home. If you are looking for a true & faithful friend, please apply today to give Brutus the life he deserves.

6/3/12

Brutus is in need of a new foster home, or better yet - a forever home to call his own. He would do best in a home with an easygoing female or even as an only dog in the right home.  Brutus is still working on his crate training.  He is such a sweet boy with every new person he meets.  Please offer to foster or adopt Brutus!

6/1/12

Brutus is continuing to do well in his temporary foster home. He has really learned to love the indoor life. In fact, he really has no interest to be outside unless you are with him. The poor guy is probably afraid to be left alone again. He is a HUGE baby with a big head, LOL. This boy is a big snuggler and loves everybody & everybody loves him. He has been doing great with his house training and is learning his basic commands such as sit and stay. Brutus loves to go for walks and jogs. He is great in the car. As soon as I grab my keys, he is the first one at the door.

Brutus will play like a 'normal boxer' and can get his little nub going about 50 mph!!! He will follow me from room to room and stays by my side. If it were up to him, I would just sit with him 24/7 :)))) He is NOT a fan of the crate, so I currently am letting him have his own room while I am working.

We went to visit the Ophthalmologist today and she did say that his vision is impaired. His eyes will not get any better nor worse. She is 150% sure that it's not causing any pain to Brutus. It looks like this poor baby was left with an untreated infection that took some of his eye sight. However, he does not know he has a problem - so please don't tell him..ha ha! He does the 14 steps better then me and is quite a runner too. She explained to me that he sees in different angles - kinda like us looking through a telescope. He has learned quickly where everything is and can navigate around without problems.

Brutus really is a great boy and would love a place to call his own. I would love to see Brutus get a home that doesn't mind a big teddy bear with a big heart and for once, I can say a small appetite. Brutus has been around my niece who is 11 and he just thinks in his little mind that kids rock. Apply today for this handsome boy and you will have a friend for life.

5/13/12 -

Meet AABR's newest addition, Brutus! Two years ago, Brutus was found as a stray and taken home by somebody just to be left tied to a doghouse. His owner was recently evicted from his home and Brutus became urgent as he had been left at the property and a neighbor was providing food for him. I went with an animal control officer to meet Brutus and to finally unhook him from his chain. Brutus almost pulled me down trying to get to the car - he was full of wiggles and kisses. Once at our home with Brutus, we quickly discovered that he has no sight or very limited sight. It was even more amazing to know that he couldn't see us and was still so accepting and loving towards all the people involved in his rescue. Even with his vision difficulties, Brutus was so happy to be able to stretch and explore - he even did a few laps around our yard.  Brutus was introduced to my female pit mix and he did great with the brief introduction to her.

Brutus will be neutered next week and brought up to date on all vet care. We will then be scheduling an appointment with an ophthalmologist to learn more about his vision needs. Please donate towards Brutus to help with his care. If you are interested in adopting this special boy, apply today! His new foster home will post an update as soon as she learns more about this handsome boy.

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please first read our Adoption Procedure, by clicking on the link at the top of this page, then fill out an online application.

Boxers and Applicants are not matched on a first come, first served basis. Not all applications are approved. On average, it takes between a week and 1 month to adopt a Rescue Boxer to an approved applicant, depending on your personal circumstances and flexibility.

Matching Boxers suitable for placement with younger children, other dogs, cats, and special needs, yours and theirs, increases the application review time and adoption time.

And yes, we realize that the Boxer you may have your heart set on, may be adopted before you're approved.   Should your first choices all ready found their forever home, we want you to advise us as to other dogs you are interested in at Adoptions@AdoptABoxerRescue.com .  Or let us suggest a few that we feel will match your home.  That is what we are good at.   And be happy for the ones that have been placed... and know that there are way too many fantastic dogs waiting in their place.

Our non-profit organization is wholly comprised of hard-working volunteers whose only reward is seeing our wonderful Boxers placed in loving, permanent homes and given another chance for a happy life. Our process may seem slow, but if you are patient, we will try to provide you with a devoted, loving companion - a Boxer.

We hope you feel that the right Boxer is worth waiting for.
