1/15/13 Sugar has really turned into a
cuddle bug. We are sure that she would cuddle on our lap all day if we
didn't have to get up! She has also shown us that her favorite game is chase
the ball, and she'll even bring it back so you can roll it down the hallway
again and again. She seems to quickly bond and become best friends with
women and older children. We are sure the perfect home for this little lover
girl will be found soon!

Sugar's new favorite thing is
to chase and pounce on every leaf that blows across her path. It's so cute
we can hardly stand it! She continues to win over everyone she meets; one
person even said her name should be Rascal because the brown patch over her
eye makes her look like a little rascal. She has made great strides in
learning to share toys and attention with her foster "brother," and they
spend hours alternating between wrestling and curling up on the couch
together, often on top of one or both of her foster parents. She is such a
sweet, little thing just waiting for a family to love!
10/16/12
Now that Sugar has been at
her foster home for a few weeks, her silly boxer side is really coming out.
She pounces on her foster brother when he least expects it, and is always
full of smiles and wiggles when her foster parents get home from work. From
her trips to the dog park and boxer play groups, she has shown that she
loves small dogs and will run and chase with any dog that can keep up.
While keeping busy playing with her furry friends, she always finds time to
visit every person she sees to get love and a few scratches. Sugar is a
very smart girl, learning quite a few new hand signals in a short time,
including come, stay, quiet, out, and enough. Everyone who meets Sugar says
she is the softest and most adorable boxer they have ever met, so hopefully
she will find her furever home soon!
10/1/12
Sugar has settled in well over
the last week at her foster home in Virginia, getting along famously with
her foster brother, 1 yr old Bentley. When she's not wrestling or playing
tug of war, Sugar cuddles right up next to you and snores away, especially
at bed time! Her foster parents have discovered that Sugar is deaf, but she
is quickly learning some basic hand signals for sit, down, wait, and go to
bed. Sugar would love a fenced yard to safely run and play in. We
would prefer that she be placed in a home with a male dog to help guide her.
Sugar has done great at doggy day care and the dog park with both large
and small dogs, playing and chasing like all young boxers. Because she has
difficulty hearing the warnings of other dogs, she needs to be carefully
monitored when playing in groups with dogs who may challenge her.
Sugar prefers to eat in her crate so that she is not surprised when another
dog approaches, but will take treats gently from your hand. She loves car
rides and exploring her surroundings on walks, where she displays her good
leash manners. Sugar's foster parents are working on reinforcing her
previous crate training. Overall, Sugar is a well-behaved, adorable boxer
looking for a home willing to take the time to teach her how to communicate
without words. She is picking things up quickly and is very easy to
work with. Apply today to adopt Sugar!

Sugar was originally adopted from the shelter as a puppy, but was
returned almost two years later along with her cocker spaniel companion. No
information was left about Sugar. We had a volunteer meet her and she
indicated that Sugar is very sweet with people. She seems to know her
basic commands and also gives her paw. Sugar is an adorable white
boxer with a natural tail. She is already spayed and is now up to date on
all vet care. She will be arriving at her new foster home this weekend and
we will update her page soon! |

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please first read our Adoption Procedure,
by clicking on the link at the top of this page,
then fill out an
online application.
Boxers and Applicants
are not matched on a first come, first served basis.
Not all applications are approved. On average, it takes
between a week and 1 month to adopt a Rescue Boxer to an
approved applicant, depending
on your personal circumstances and flexibility.
Matching Boxers suitable for placement
with younger children, other dogs, cats, and special
needs, yours and theirs, increases the application review
time and adoption time.
And yes, we
realize that the Boxer you may have your heart set on, may be adopted
before you're approved. Should your first choices all ready
found their forever home, we want you to advise
us as to other dogs you are interested in at
Adoptions@AdoptABoxerRescue.com . Or let
us suggest a few that we feel will match your home.
That is what we are good at. And be happy for the
ones that have been placed... and know that there are way too many
fantastic dogs waiting in their place.
Our non-profit organization is wholly comprised of hard-working volunteers whose only reward is seeing our wonderful
Boxers placed in loving, permanent homes and given another chance for a happy life. Our process may seem slow, but if you are patient, we will try to provide you with a devoted, loving companion - a
Boxer.
We hope you feel that
the right Boxer is worth waiting for.
