07/10/2013 - Happy Beginnings!

Hi Lisa and Joann!!!
Sorry for the late update, I got my months mixed up and realized I was supposed to email you June 16! Oops!
Mugsy is doing FANTASTIC! He looks amazing, feels amazing and acts amazing! We completed an obedience class with him a couple of months ago and although he was already a well behaved dog he is even more well behaved now! He now has more confidence since the class although still a little nervous around new people, we are still working on that. Hopefully time will heal his distrust in humans and he will become a wiggly little boxer that most people expect.
His paws are no longer covered in cysts since being on a strict no chicken and no grain diet. The problem with his paws now is that his once severely callused pads are now peeling as new skin is growing, so once in a while a "boulder" comes off and he is bleeding all over the house. My vet told me to treat it as cracked hands and moisturize as needed so I've been lathering him up with coconut oil and that seems to be helping. But his paws seem to be doing 100% better since we got him, even our vet said the same thing.
We found out that he LOVES the beach, mostly just lying in the sand and relaxing! We bring him and the truck out to shinnecock hills beach and relax for the majority of the day. He's so well behaved that he just sits between our chairs under the umbrella and doesn't move all day until we start playing. He's not sure about the water but we get his feet in there because the salt water helps heal his pads! The funny thing was last weekend while walking him along the beach a woman came up to him to pet him and she also rescued a boxer from AABR! We couldn't stop talking about you guys and how great of an organization AABR is.
All in all he is doing amazing, we are so in love with him and he gives the love straight back to us with kisses and constant snuggling! We couldn't of asked for a better dog! Thank you so much again!
As a side note.... I used frontline or advantix on him and he became a little "weird" that month so of course I did research and of course returned it right away and I am now using natural remedies to avoid fleas and ticks. Have you had any problems with the flea and tick stuff on your boxers? I've been applying marigold spray after baths to avoid Mosquitos and before going to the beach I apply sentry natural defense which is loaded with peppermint, cinnamon, lemongrass, thyme and clove oils and that works very well without making him all weird. I of course do a thorough check up on him and brushing afterwards to also make sure he didn't get any bugs on him and knock on wood, nothing so far. Any other suggestions or what I'm doing so far is good based on your experience with the boxers? Thanks!

From his new parents

Benny was taken from his owners because of neglect. He is very underweight and has sores on his ankles.  Benny is a super sweet boy that just wants some love. He is in a temporary foster until he is transported to New York. Benny was taken to a vet and is on medicine for the sore on his ankles and will be neutered once he puts on some weight. This boy really needs a foster home when he arrives in NY for TLC  - a kennel is no place for this sweet boy. Please apply to foster or adopt Benny.

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please first read our Adoption Procedure, by clicking on the link at the top of this page, then fill out an online application.

Boxers and Applicants are not matched on a first come, first served basis. Not all applications are approved. On average, it takes between a week and 1 month to adopt a Rescue Boxer to an approved applicant, depending on your personal circumstances and flexibility.

Matching Boxers suitable for placement with younger children, other dogs, cats, and special needs, yours and theirs, increases the application review time and adoption time.

And yes, we realize that the Boxer you may have your heart set on, may be adopted before you're approved.   Should your first choices all ready found their forever home, we want you to advise us as to other dogs you are interested in at Adoptions@AdoptABoxerRescue.com .  Or let us suggest a few that we feel will match your home.  That is what we are good at.   And be happy for the ones that have been placed... and know that there are way too many fantastic dogs waiting in their place.

Our non-profit organization is wholly comprised of hard-working volunteers whose only reward is seeing our wonderful Boxers placed in loving, permanent homes and given another chance for a happy life. Our process may seem slow, but if you are patient, we will try to provide you with a devoted, loving companion - a Boxer.

We hope you feel that the right Boxer is worth waiting for.
