7/7/13 Bowzer joined our pack 3 days
ago and is settling in beautifully. We don't have a lot of history on him
except that he has obviously been neglected and was dumped at the shelter.
The previous family indicated they had a female dog in the home that was
about to give birth and they didn't want the puppies to catch Bowzer's skin
infection. Well, he does have a terrible case of Demodex, which is NOT
contagious. Because they never treated him, Bowzer also now has a bad skin
infection on top of that. His poor skin is redder and hotter than any
Demodex case I've ever dealt with. So we now have our little man on all of
the antibiotics and other medications he needs to fight the itch and kill
the Demodex. He will require several vet visits for skin scrapings and check
ups, but he'll be just fine in a few months and his hair will all grow back
as he gets better. Bowzer will also be neutered, but that can't happen until
his skin is clear.
Now for the good stuff. This little fella is fabulous! He is doing
incredibly well with our other dogs and resident cats. In fact, he couldn't
care less about the cats, including our paralyzed kitty who scoots around
the house in a diaper and climbs the furniture by pulling herself up with
just her front legs. He doesn't give her a second look. Bowzer is crate and
house trained, seems to know his basic commands, and follows me around like
my shadow. He walks beautifully on a leash. I think he was definitely a city
dog and seems most comfortable on the concrete, but is figuring out grass
and having a backyard. He seems curious about the people and dogs he sees on
our walks, but looks and then walks on without hesitation when told. He did
resist getting in the crate the first few times, but got over that after
getting his meals and some yummy snacks in the crate. He definitely needs
some extra groceries to get a little meat on his bones, but that's just a
matter of time and he'll be at a nice healthy weight. Bowzer does whine and
cry when I first crate him, but he now settles down after a few minutes or
if corrected for it.
Bowzer is so adorable and just as sweet as can be. He was a little shy
with me at first, but is warming up quickly. The nub goes a mile a minute
when I talk to him now and he comes right to me when he's unsure of
something. He had a bath yesterday and climbed right into the tub without
any hesitation or coaxing. It's only been a couple of days and I can see
this one will be a heart breaker, as it will be hard to let this boy go.
He's going to make some lucky family very, very happy. I would get that
application in quickly. Dogs like Bowzer don't come along every day. He's
the perfect family dog. You better hurry if you want him to join yours.
He'll be adopted before you know it!

-
Bowzer was surrendered to the shelter by his owner. He has Demodex mange
that had been left untreated by his previous family. The good news is that
Demodex is not contagious to other people or animals.
Bowzer just arrived at his new foster home and he will be on his way to
recovery soon. Bowzer tested well with both dogs and cats at the shelter. He
previously lived with children. Bowzer has all the qualities of a young
boxer - he is happy, friendly, handsome, and quite the snuggler! |

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please first read our Adoption Procedure,
by clicking on the link at the top of this page,
then fill out an
online application.
Boxers and Applicants
are not matched on a first come, first served basis.
Not all applications are approved. On average, it takes
between a week and 1 month to adopt a Rescue Boxer to an
approved applicant, depending
on your personal circumstances and flexibility.
Matching Boxers suitable for placement
with younger children, other dogs, cats, and special
needs, yours and theirs, increases the application review
time and adoption time.
And yes, we
realize that the Boxer you may have your heart set on, may be adopted
before you're approved. Should your first choices all ready
found their forever home, we want you to advise
us as to other dogs you are interested in at
Adoptions@AdoptABoxerRescue.com . Or let
us suggest a few that we feel will match your home.
That is what we are good at. And be happy for the
ones that have been placed... and know that there are way too many
fantastic dogs waiting in their place.
Our non-profit organization is wholly comprised of hard-working volunteers whose only reward is seeing our wonderful
Boxers placed in loving, permanent homes and given another chance for a happy life. Our process may seem slow, but if you are patient, we will try to provide you with a devoted, loving companion - a
Boxer.
We hope you feel that
the right Boxer is worth waiting for.
