9/6/13 Chase has been in his new
foster home for about five weeks and has built a ton of confidence! His
head is all healed from the cyst removal and he is waiting for his forever
home. Chase's foster mom says he is a quick learner and has learned some
basic commands (sit, down, leave it, and off). Chase loves going on car
rides and visiting friends and family. He is the hit of the
neighborhood and gets many visits and gifts from neighbors (including the
monkey hat that he is wearing in the picture.) Chase still requires a few
minutes and some patience to adjust to new situations and people, but once
he does, his silly, lovable personality shines.
Chase embodies everything I love about boxers. Each day he is with me, he
gains more confidence and more of his fun-loving personality emerges.
Sometimes he entertains himself with his favorite stuffed duck or by
lounging in the sunlight, but what he really loves is being near his humans.
He would love nothing more than to lay his head on your lap all day, but he
is content to be in the same room with you and nap lazily nearby. The
neighbors love him! Once he meets someone, he remembers where they live and
always pauses outside their home looking for them and doing a wiggle-butt
dance.
Chase also loves his “foster boxer-sister”. Despite the fact that she is
a pushy little girl who occasionally feels the need to put Chase in his
place; even if he is just lying there minding his own business. His response
to her is fabulous. He just rolls with it by giving her space when she needs
it and snuggling with her when she allows it. Over the last few days, the
two of them have engaged in so much of the wonderful “boxer-play” and then
snuggle up together for a long nap. At times, when he gets scared of new
noises or is unsure of a situation, he relies on his fur-sibling for cues
and quickly gains confidence. Chase is an absolute wonderful dog.

Chase is settling into his
foster home. He will require a home with another dog as he looks to his
foster sister for cues when he gets scared. Chase just needs a home with
patience. He is already blossoming and we know that in a loving home he will
continue to learn the world is not that scary of a place.

Poor Chase! This little cutie ended up at the city shelter when his
family could no longer afford him. He was super scared and nearly shut down.
With some time and patience, we were able to get him out of the shelter cage
and to the walk to freedom!
Within minutes of being out of the shelter, he actually sat in the
volunteer's lap and gave her a soft kiss on the cheek. It is enough to break
your heart. The volunteer promised that AABR will take good care of him and
that he has nothing to fear from here on out.
Chase has what looks to be cysts on his head, but we will get him seen by
a vet asap to get it checked out. Chase came from a home with other dogs and
children under 5 years old, but because he was so shut down after being
dumped at the shelter, we didn't do a full evaluation. We will wait until he
can decompress and start to relax. Chase will be arriving at his foster home
soon. |
