Homer has been in his new foster home for a little over a week and his foster mom reports that he is the most “easy going” houseguest. He is well mannered, completely housetrained, and doesn’t need crated during the day. While the gray muzzle in his pictures let you know that he is an older guy, don’t be fooled. He leads the way on daily walks (3 plus miles), keeps up with his 4 year old boxer fur sister when playing and when she gets tired, he will entertain himself with his toys. However, despite how much Homer loves his walks and his play, he will easily stop doing either if he is given the opportunity to sit close and snuggle with his “humans”.

11/9/13

Homer is in need of a new foster home.  His current foster family feels that he would do best in a home with children over the age of 5.  Homer would love a foster or forever home with another dog or somebody there often for him.  If you can help Homer, please let us know today!

10/16/13

Homer is still looking for his forever home! He is a very social dog and loves the companionship of his foster siblings (fur and human). He would do best in a home with other dogs or someone that stays home with him. He is the welcoming committee when guests come over and expects love from everyone, whether they want it or not. He is a super mellow dog that prefers to lounge on the couch all day. Homer is very fond of toys and can chew them in record time, so having plenty around is a must. He is a great dog and would love to find his permanent family.

8/30/13

Homer has now been with us for a week and a half, and he is settling in great. When I first brought him home, he followed me everywhere. I couldn't go to the bathroom without him whining desperately at the door...afraid he was going to be left...again.  It broke my heart. Now, he follows me everywhere - but with a wagging tail. He is truly the perfect gentleman.

Homer is the dog that sleeps at your feet, welcomes you home with kisses and a wiggling body, and sleeps at the end of your bed. He learns extremely fast and walks great on a leash. Homer loves my very energetic kids (ages 3 and 5) and gets more excited to see them than me...even though I feed and walk him. My 5 year old has decided that he likes him better than our dogs because Homer actually listens to him.

Homer would be a welcome addition to any family. He is also great with my female boxer and wimpy cocker spaniel. I honestly can't find anything wrong with this handsome guy.

8/4/13 -

Homer is a 7 year old boxer who has lived in the same home his entire life.  His owners are moving to New York and can only take one dog, so he is being left behind.  Homer was scheduled to be taken to a high kill shelter on Tuesday, but they reached out to AABR to see if we could help this sweet boy.

Homer is wonderful with children of all ages and has lived with two female boxers.  He has a very loving temperament.  Homer has been used to a fenced yard and a doggy door.  He is completely housebroken.  Homer enjoys giving kisses, going for walks, and you can often find him reclining in his favorite chair.

Homer is scheduled to arrive at our boarding kennel until a foster home can be found.  Please offer to help this older guy to get him out of the kennel as soon as possible.  Apply today for Homer!

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please first read our Adoption Procedure, by clicking on the link at the top of this page, then fill out an online application.

Boxers and Applicants are not matched on a first come, first served basis. Not all applications are approved. On average, it takes between a week and 1 month to adopt a Rescue Boxer to an approved applicant, depending on your personal circumstances and flexibility.

Matching Boxers suitable for placement with younger children, other dogs, cats, and special needs, yours and theirs, increases the application review time and adoption time.

And yes, we realize that the Boxer you may have your heart set on, may be adopted before you're approved.   Should your first choices all ready found their forever home, we want you to advise us as to other dogs you are interested in at Adoptions@AdoptABoxerRescue.com .  Or let us suggest a few that we feel will match your home.  That is what we are good at.   And be happy for the ones that have been placed... and know that there are way too many fantastic dogs waiting in their place.

Our non-profit organization is wholly comprised of hard-working volunteers whose only reward is seeing our wonderful Boxers placed in loving, permanent homes and given another chance for a happy life. Our process may seem slow, but if you are patient, we will try to provide you with a devoted, loving companion - a Boxer.

We hope you feel that the right Boxer is worth waiting for.
