7/01/14 Izzy is getting ready for a
couple of big days coming up. First is the 4th of July. The sounds of all
the fireworks will not bother him at all and he is looking forward to seeing
the pretty lights in the sky. The second big day? His first birthday, of
course. Our adorable guy turns one on July 16!
Izzy is almost all grown up now and is the 'big dog' in the house these
days. He is still all puppy, though! Izzy is learning some hand signals and
has a new collar that lets everyone know he is deaf. His vision is much
better - he sees well enough that he can play ball in the yard. When he
greets people, Izzy likes to get close to your face so he can get a good
sniff in. He usually manages to sneak in some kisses while he is at it. Izzy
is a complete goofball and keeps his foster mom smiling. He is also the
perfect snuggle buddy once he is ready for sleep.

Izzy will be eight months old
tomorrow and he is doing great! His vision continues to improve and he
really enjoys his foster brothers. Izzy really is a typical adolescent
boxer - goofy, a little clumsy, and a lot of fun to be around. He
joined us at an event recently and had a wonderful time playing with other
pups his own age. Izzy can be loud when he plays, but that is just
because he can't hear. His playmates all understand it is all in fun
and usually get loud right along with him.
If you have been thinking about applying for Izzy, but haven't been sure
- now is the time! His vision will continue to improve until his eyes
stop growing (the eyes grow, but the cataracts do not). He really
doesn't have any idea that he can't hear - it is all perfectly normal to
him. Don't miss out on this sweet, cuddly, and playful boy!

Izzy
continues to do very well in his foster home. He has learned both sit and
shake, and absolutely loves playing with his foster brothers. Izzy's vision
has improved to the point that you would really have difficulty telling
anything was wrong. He has even been chasing tennis balls in the backyard!
He is a very sweet pup and enjoys a good snuggle when he is ready for a nap.
The ideal home for Izzy will have another playful dog who can show him the
ropes. A fenced yard is a must for Izzy. He has been neutered and is ready
to head home once we find his forever family!

Izzy got
to see the great doctors at the University of Pennsylvania last week and
received some encouraging news. He has cataracts that cover about 50% of his
lens, so he can see much better than we initially thought he could! The
doctor believes Izzy's vision may even improve as he grows, and if that
happens, no surgery would be needed at all. We also feel that Izzy is deaf,
so he is going to need a very special home willing to spend quite a bit of
time training him. He also needs to go to a home with another dog - one who
can be patient as he learns how to communicate properly. Izzy loves to play
and has learned to navigate his foster home very well already. He is very
energetic (as we would expect from a boxer pup!), but once he is asleep, not
much wakes him up! If you are interested in adopting Izzy and have the time
to dedicate to this adorable boy, please complete the application by

Izzy was recently surrendered to AABR from a PA puppy mill. He had
been sold, but was returned. Izzy and both of his siblings have vision
issues. Izzy appears to have limited vision, which will be checked by
a veterinarian next week. Izzy would do best in a home with another
dog. He also needs a home that is able to provide the time, training,
and socialization that a puppy requires. We will post more information
once he is seen by a specialist. |
