Seniors Rock!

See new video of Rocky NY2 with his foster sister Ginger!

5/28/14

Rocky has been moved to a new foster home and is settling in well.  Rocky is loving his new yard and the companionship of his foster sister, Ginger.  They are having a blast together!  Please consider opening your heart and home to this special boy.

5/24/14

Rocky's owner has moved into a long term care facility due to cancer and can not care of him anymore.  Rocky is in urgent need of a new foster home or a forever home with few or no stairs.  He is currently in a temporary foster placement in New York.  Rocky bonds quickly and has done well with other dogs in a day care setting.  His nub hardly ever stops wagging.  If you can help Rocky, apply today!

We have some great news about Rocky! Our veterinarian removed the mass on his leg and the biopsy showed that it was a benign keratin growth, nothing more. He is all healed up (as you can see in the picture) and doing great - but would love a home of his own for the holidays. Rocky is great on leash and he doesn't pull. He is very respectful, deferring to the person leading him to let them walk first through doors and up and down stairs. He likes children and gets an extra spring in his step when he sees them, but has been calm and patient around the ones he has met. He also goes to doggy day care and likes other dogs. What he really loves is a doggy massage, which puts a look of sheer bliss on his face. He's not so crazy about snow though... he prefers to stay inside with his new Woody Woodpecker toy which you can hear in the video.

Rocky, nicknamed Mr. Balboa in his foster home, is a super friendly, happy boy.  He has done well with meeting and greeting new friends, both human and canine. Rocky has a great smile and a non-stop nubbin wag. This very handsome man looks younger than his reported 8 years of age, but does have some arthritis - so would like a home with few or no stairs. He has adapted quickly to his foster home in New York City where the neighbors already have offered to help with walks. Rocky is so affectionate that his foster would like to see him go to a family where he can get lots of human contact. We are getting the lump on his left front leg checked out and will update as soon as we know more.

10/25/13 - Rocky NY2

Rocky is a super handsome and friendly senior boxer boy who found himself at the shelter because his owners were moving. Rocky was happy to meet and greet other dogs and is just the cutest, friendliest boy going. His previous owner reported that Rocky lived with children of all ages. He has a mass on his leg that we will need to get checked out. Rocky has just arrived at his new foster home. More information will be posted soon!

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please first read our Adoption Procedure, by clicking on the link at the top of this page, then fill out an online application.

Boxers and Applicants are not matched on a first come, first served basis. Not all applications are approved. On average, it takes between a week and 1 month to adopt a Rescue Boxer to an approved applicant, depending on your personal circumstances and flexibility.

Matching Boxers suitable for placement with younger children, other dogs, cats, and special needs, yours and theirs, increases the application review time and adoption time.

And yes, we realize that the Boxer you may have your heart set on, may be adopted before you're approved.   Should your first choices all ready found their forever home, we want you to advise us as to other dogs you are interested in at Adoptions@AdoptABoxerRescue.com .  Or let us suggest a few that we feel will match your home.  That is what we are good at.   And be happy for the ones that have been placed... and know that there are way too many fantastic dogs waiting in their place.

Our non-profit organization is wholly comprised of hard-working volunteers whose only reward is seeing our wonderful Boxers placed in loving, permanent homes and given another chance for a happy life. Our process may seem slow, but if you are patient, we will try to provide you with a devoted, loving companion - a Boxer.

We hope you feel that the right Boxer is worth waiting for.
