5/20/14 - MEMORIAL
It is with a sad heart that I tell you all that tonight we said our goodbyes
to Lady Erin. Unfortunately, as much as her heart and soul had more
love to give, her body just couldn't fight anymore. There isn't a
doubt in our minds that she left this world knowing nothing but love, and
for that we will always be thankful that we had the opportunity to love her.
We knew going into this that our time with Lady Erin would be short, but
what we didn't know is what an amazingly special dog she was. I would
like to thank my doctors for working so hard on both of our dogs the last
two months. I know it takes an emotional toll on them to be unable to
find the magic cure. I would also like to thank Adopt a Boxer Rescue
for entrusting us with such a special old soul. As much as my heart
hurts right now, I guarantee that I would do it all over again in a
heartbeat. I hope, if nothing else, that sharing Lady Erin with
everyone has helped to show what an amazing journey adopting or fostering
can be. She had so many nicknames in the four months she was with us
so tonight we say, "Goodnight Princess Snarf, there will only ever be one
hork-arella." We love you lady bugs.

From
Lady Erin's foster mom:
My fiancé and I discussed fostering at length since we bought our home in
July. Convincing my fiancé to foster wasn't difficult at all, but
convincing him that I wanted to foster seniors involved many watery eyed
discussions. We have our own 12.5 yr old boxer and we are pretty
realistic that he has been on borrowed time for at least two years, but we
have been blessed with good health minus a few hiccups here and there.
We like to think he read that boxers have a life expectancy of 8-10 years
and just laughed. Our dog will be 13 in May. If anything were to
happen to myself or my fiancé, my dog would be considered "undesirable."
He is old and he is shy. I only hope and dream that if I should be
unable to, a stranger would step up and give my dog the dignity that he
deserves for as long as he needs it. It is not about our heartache,
but about their love.
It will be two weeks since we took in our first senior foster, Lady Erin.
There have been big brown eyes staring up from my lap to say "Thank you."
I'll never forget the first time she approached me to be scratched.
How she leaned her neck into my hand, grunted, and said, "Yeah, that is the
spot." Who knows how long we have with her. When it is time to
say goodbye, my heart won't hurt anymore or any less because she only shared
her heart with me for a few months or with any luck, a few years. I
will hurt, I will cry, but I will heal. My life will be changed
forever and I will open my home again to the next senior in need.
It can't always be about hurt, but about their love and what they have
left to share. The long and short of it is that it isn't about us at
all, but about the dogs we say we love. Please consider opening up
your heart and home to a special senior in need.

Lady
Erin continues to make amazing progress following surgery! Included
are two new pictures from her foster home. Please consider a wonderful
senior boxer for your home!

Lady
Erin had a successful surgery to remove the tumor on her leg.
Following surgery, she moved into her new foster home, where she is resting
comfortably. Lady Erin is definitely on the road to recovery - she is
eating well and her urinary tract infection has completely cleared up.
She is such an easy girl to have in the house - Lady Erin gets along great
with other dogs, cats, and children of all ages!
1/28/14 -
Please meet sweet Lady Erin! At 11 years of age, Lady Erin was
brought into the shelter because of a large, infected tumor on her leg.
We are getting bloodwork done to see if it can get removed as soon as
possible. Other than the tumor, Lady Erin moves around just fine.
She has a little arthritis in her back end, but that doesn't stop her from
enjoying strolls around the neighborhood. Lady Erin is reported to be
great with children of all ages and has lived with them in her previous
home. Although she didn't live with other animals, she has been at
ease with the cats and dogs she has met in her temporary foster home.
We think she would do just fine in a home with other easygoing animals.
Lady Erin is also great in the car and has been fine with all the handling
at the vet hospital. We are looking for a special and immediate foster
home for Lady Erin, so she doesn't have to go to a kennel. We need
somebody who will keep her safe and happy for the rest of her days; however
long that may be. All medical expenses for foster homes are paid by
the rescue and donations are welcome! If you have an open, comfy spot
in your home for a sweet senior, please consider helping Lady Erin.
Thank you! |

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please first read our Adoption Procedure,
by clicking on the link at the top of this page,
then fill out an
online application.
Boxers and Applicants
are not matched on a first come, first served basis.
Not all applications are approved. On average, it takes
between a week and 1 month to adopt a Rescue Boxer to an
approved applicant, depending
on your personal circumstances and flexibility.
Matching Boxers suitable for placement
with younger children, other dogs, cats, and special
needs, yours and theirs, increases the application review
time and adoption time.
And yes, we
realize that the Boxer you may have your heart set on, may be adopted
before you're approved. Should your first choices all ready
found their forever home, we want you to advise
us as to other dogs you are interested in at
Adoptions@AdoptABoxerRescue.com . Or let
us suggest a few that we feel will match your home.
That is what we are good at. And be happy for the
ones that have been placed... and know that there are way too many
fantastic dogs waiting in their place.
Our non-profit organization is wholly comprised of hard-working volunteers whose only reward is seeing our wonderful
Boxers placed in loving, permanent homes and given another chance for a happy life. Our process may seem slow, but if you are patient, we will try to provide you with a devoted, loving companion - a
Boxer.
We hope you feel that
the right Boxer is worth waiting for.
