7/11/14 Angus is proving to be a
wonderful dog and keeps showing us every day how eager he is to live, love,
and learn. Angus loves his daily walks, romping around in the yard
like a clumsy pony (often times resulting in somersaults over his long
legs), and discovering how to entertain himself with toys. We have
taken Angus on a few hikes, and his legs are definitely built for covering
some ground!
Angus is slowly learning how to play properly with us and his toys.
It seems like nobody has ever taught the poor guy right from wrong and it is
certainly not his fault. When he finally does stop moving, he loves to
curl up beside you on the couch. Let me tell you, this guy is a
professional cuddler!
He needs constant help to remember that hands are for petting and not to
be used as chew toys. Although he has the cutest voice when he talks,
Angus still needs to learn that barking is no way to demand what you want.
He also gets a little too exuberant when playing and springs all 55 lbs of
fury in your direction.
I can tell you in the short time that Angus has been with us, he has made
great strides with just consistent and positive redirection. When he
first came to us, you could barely interact with him without using your
hands, feet, or anything that could fit in his mouth as a chew toy.
Now he is learning that leaning in for a scratch is so much more rewarding
than being ignored for being bratty.
Angus has also slowly come around to going into his crate, and now does
so willingly (for cookies, of course!). He definitely needs more work
with appropriately greeting people...again, he just gets so excited and
can't contain himself.
Unfortunately, we haven't had much luck finding him playmates that are
rough and tumble enough to keep up with him, but he does seem to love other
dogs. Angus is almost 100% housebroken. The few accidents he has
had are always our fault for not noticing that he just got bored and drank
the entire bowl of water.
Angus will need somebody with patience and that shares his thirst for all
things active and fun. Right now, he needs a lot of supervision to
keep him on the right track. He is certainly one smart cookie and
picks up on new habits quickly. Angus would definitely benefit from some
time in puppy school. He will make a great companion for somebody who
is dedicated to teaching him how to be the wonderful dog we know that Angus
can become.

Angus was pulled by another rescue, but their foster home backed out and
AABR was able to commit to him and get Angus into a foster home last night.
Angus is estimated to be around 8-10 months of age. He is looking for
an athletic home to give him the exercise and training he needs. Angus
is a sweet and affectionate boy. He would be a great agility dog or
hiking companion. Angus is ready for his forever home - apply today! |
