10/05/15 - MEMORIAL

AABR is very saddened to learn that Journey has crossed the bridge.  We can't express enough appreciation for her people, Tom and Patrick.  They opened their hearts and home to her when she needed someone to be her hero. Below is their memorial:

"Journey's journey came to an end today.  We are heartbroken, but know it is for the best.  We may have been able to prolong things for another few weeks, but feel she had started declining to the point that it was better she go off while she still had the occasional good days.  Thank you for blessing us with her this past year and 3 months!"

5/04/15

Today is the 10-month anniversary of the day Journey joined the AABR family.  She has come a long way from the scared, tumor-ridden girl that was found by a good Samaritan.  Journey is doing great in her foster home and we have posted a few new photos.

10/28/14

Journey is recovering well from her surgery.  Included are two new pictures of her trip to the park today.

10/21/14

Journey had her surgery yesterday and it was more extensive than expected.  She had seven of the largest tumors removed and was also spayed.  She stayed in the ICU overnight and will be returning to her foster home today.  Thank you to all of Journey's sponsors who have helped with her vet care.

10/3/14

Journey is finally healthy enough to undergo surgery to remove all of the mammary tumors from her belly.  Her fosters have put together a GoFundMe campaign to raise the cost of the surgery, which is $2400.  Please consider making a donation to help Journey take the next big step in her "Journey to Health."

Journey asked us to let her fans know she is loving her new sophisticated life.  Since being found as a stray in the Bronx, she has settled into her Manhattan foster home well.  She loves the company of her foster dads and gets so excited when they come home from work.  Journey runs laps around the apartment with her favorite squeaky tennis ball in her mouth.  She has demonstrated that she can be the perfect houseguest and even spent weekends with friends in the Catskills and the Hamptons!  Journey is steadily putting on weight thanks to a very generous food donation from Tammy M.  We hope she will be up to a good enough weight for surgery very soon!

7/01/14

Journey is still looking for a foster home with either no other dogs or a home able to do slow introductions with an easygoing resident dog.  Journey has not been socialized much with other dogs, but absolutely loves people.  If you are interested in fostering Journey, apply today!  Included are some new photos of Journey in her temporary foster home.

6/22/14 -

AABR was contacted about a boxer girl who wandered into a good Samaritan's backyard.  This girl is in pretty rough shape, but she is as sweet as can be.  Her X-Rays looked clear of any internal disease.  She is urgently looking for a foster home to help her gain weight and get strong enough for surgery.  Journey has several masses on her belly that will need removed.  She also has a long standing urinary tract infection that will require about a month of antibiotics.

Journey's ideal foster home would be one with the ability to give her space as she is very nervous around other dogs.  Journey may be fine in the future with slow introductions.  She is great with people and literally needs nothing more than somebody to walk and feed her.  Journey is 100% housebroken and can be left all day and will not touch a thing.

If you can provide a foster home for Journey, apply today.  Please also consider helping Journey by making a donation towards her care.

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please first read our Adoption Procedure, by clicking on the link at the top of this page, then fill out an online application.

Boxers and Applicants are not matched on a first come, first served basis. Not all applications are approved. On average, it takes between a week and 3 months to adopt a Rescue Boxer to an approved applicant, depending on your personal circumstances and flexibility.

Not every home is the right match for a boxer, and matching Boxers suitable for placement with younger children, other dogs, cats, and special needs, yours and theirs, increases the application review time and adoption time.

And yes, we realize that the Boxer you may have your heart set on, may be adopted before you're approved.   Should your first choices all ready found their forever home, we want you to advise us at your home visit of other dogs you are interested...  Or let us suggest a few that we feel will match your home.  That is what we are good at.   And be happy for the ones that have been placed... and know that there are way too many fantastic dogs waiting in their place.

Our non-profit organization is wholly comprised of hard-working volunteers whose only reward is seeing our wonderful Boxers placed in loving, permanent homes and given another chance for a happy life. Our process may seem slow, but if you are patient, we will try to provide you with a devoted, loving companion - a Boxer.

We hope you feel that the right Boxer is worth waiting for.
