7/19/15

Abe is in need of a foster or forever home!  He would do best in a placement without other dogs.  Abe is now around a year of age.  He gets along really well on three legs.  If you are interested in helping Abe find a forever home, apply today!

4/2015 - Kept by adopter

Abe is heading back to rescue.  Last fall, he came into the shelter very sick with Parvo and AABR stepped up to help, even though he was a mix.  Once he began to recover, we realized he also had a problem with his rear leg - a serious break that healed poorly.  At the age of just 4 months, little Abe had to have his leg amputated.  In the intervening months, his adopter has worked with a trainer to try to get Abe comfortable with the other dog in the home, but now believes Abe would do best as an only dog.  His adopter has made the very difficult decision to return him to rescue, in the hope he will find a home that he does not have to share with another dog.

Abe is now about 9 months old.  He is in need of a foster or forever home.  Abe would do best in a home without cats.  Abe is housetrained and crate trained.  He is super affectionate and very loving with humans.  Abe loves to snuggle.  Even though he is a tripod, he does everything a four legged dog can do.  If you are interested in Abe, apply today for this special boy!

Abe visited the orthopedic surgeon.  Two doctors worked together, hoping to be able to save his leg.  Unfortunately, it was an old break and the bones healed into something that could not be repaired.  Abe's leg had to be amputated and he is now back at his foster home to recover.  Please consider donating towards Abe's care.  This sweet boy has had a really rough start, but is now on the road to recovery.

9/22/14

Now that Abe is up and moving, we discovered that he is limping on his back leg.  The vet X-rayed him and found a previous fracture.  This poor boy must have been in a lot of pain.

Abe has just arrived at his new foster home and will be seeing the orthopedic surgeon as soon as possible.  Please consider making a donation towards Abe's medical care!  We will update his page as soon as we have more information.

9/16/14

Abe is slowly improving.  On Saturday evening, he did not have any vomiting or diarrhea overnight and he was finally producing urine.  Abe is being switched to oral medication and hopefully will have interest in eating soon!

9/11/14 -

Abe is a 4 month old boxer mix who was diagnosed with Parvovirus and is currently at one of our vet hospitals for treatment.  If you are not familiar with Parvo, puppies should receive vaccines that will prevent this, starting at 6-8 weeks of age.  Parvo is highly contagious and can be deadly if left untreated.  Abe will need extended medical care in an isolation unit until he is past the danger point.

AABR was not the first rescue contacted to take Abe, but we were the last that needed to be asked.  We are once again requesting your support in making sure Abe gets the medical care he needs.  Please consider making a donation in his name.  And please send good thoughts and prayers his way also!  We will continue to post updates about his progress.

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please first read our Adoption Procedure, by clicking on the link at the top of this page, then fill out an online application.

Boxers and Applicants are not matched on a first come, first served basis. Not all applications are approved. On average, it takes between a week and 3 months to adopt a Rescue Boxer to an approved applicant, depending on your personal circumstances and flexibility.

Not every home is the right match for a boxer, and matching Boxers suitable for placement with younger children, other dogs, cats, and special needs, yours and theirs, increases the application review time and adoption time.

And yes, we realize that the Boxer you may have your heart set on, may be adopted before you're approved.   Should your first choices all ready found their forever home, we want you to advise us at your home visit of other dogs you are interested...  Or let us suggest a few that we feel will match your home.  That is what we are good at.   And be happy for the ones that have been placed... and know that there are way too many fantastic dogs waiting in their place.

Our non-profit organization is wholly comprised of hard-working volunteers whose only reward is seeing our wonderful Boxers placed in loving, permanent homes and given another chance for a happy life. Our process may seem slow, but if you are patient, we will try to provide you with a devoted, loving companion - a Boxer.

We hope you feel that the right Boxer is worth waiting for.
