9/16/15 - MEMORIAL

Rescue doesn't always have happy endings.  Today we lost sweet Penny.  When she came into rescue, Penny was emaciated, had a large mammary tumor, and needed urgent help.  Our volunteers put together an emergency transport and rushed her to get medical care.  Penny has been under the care of our vet since then.  Sadly, Penny's little body was just too far gone and she passed away last night in the arms of a caring vet tech.  As always, thank you to the heroic efforts of the vets and staff at Main Street Vet.

Penny, if only we had found you sooner.  RIP, sweet girl.  Run free on the bridge and know that in the short time you were here, you were loved by many.

Penny is still hospitalized at our vet's office.  She is eating and drinking, but is still not feeling well.  Our vet feels that her mammary tumor is the primary source of the infection she is dealing with.  They are monitoring the drainage from the tumor and have also started her on medication for arthritis.  We are hoping Penny will be able to arrive at her foster home this upcoming week.  We will continue to update Penny's page as we learn more and appreciate any donations towards her care.

9/08/15 -

Penny came into the shelter as a stray with a large mammary tumor.  Due to the pain of the tumor, Penny is not wanting to eat and she is also anemic due to blood loss.  Penny needs emergency vet care in hopes of saving her life.  She will be transported to our rescue vet tomorrow.

Penny's temporary foster mom with the shelter indicated that Penny did well with her five other dogs and two cats.  She is very sweet and loving with people.  Her mammary tumor has been bleeding and Penny is on pain medication every six hours.  After several days in foster, Penny's health began to decline.  She would not eat or drink yesterday, and her respiration became very rapid.  Penny was taken to the vet this morning for fluids and to get stabilized for transport tomorrow.

Penny continues to have a difficult time breathing.  She is panting and each breath is very labored.  Penny is also not wanting to move around.  She is very uncomfortable and we will be doing everything possible to discover what is causing her symptoms.  We will post more information after she arrives at our rescue vet.  Please consider donating towards Penny's medical care.  AABR will be doing everything we can to hopefully save this sweet girl.

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please first read our Adoption Procedure, by clicking on the link at the top of this page, then fill out an online application.

Boxers and Applicants are not matched on a first come, first served basis. Not all applications are approved. On average, it takes between a week and 3 months to adopt a Rescue Boxer to an approved applicant, depending on your personal circumstances and flexibility.

Not every home is the right match for a boxer, and matching Boxers suitable for placement with younger children, other dogs, cats, and special needs, yours and theirs, increases the application review time and adoption time.

And yes, we realize that the Boxer you may have your heart set on, may be adopted before you're approved.   Should your first choices all ready found their forever home, we want you to advise us at your home visit of other dogs you are interested...  Or let us suggest a few that we feel will match your home.  That is what we are good at.   And be happy for the ones that have been placed... and know that there are way too many fantastic dogs waiting in their place.

Our non-profit organization is wholly comprised of hard-working volunteers whose only reward is seeing our wonderful Boxers placed in loving, permanent homes and given another chance for a happy life. Our process may seem slow, but if you are patient, we will try to provide you with a devoted, loving companion - a Boxer.

We hope you feel that the right Boxer is worth waiting for.
