Rebel is doing great in his foster home!  He is living with both male and female dogs, and loves each and every one of them.  We also have a couple resident cats that he doesn't seem to mind either.  Rebel is 100% house trained and does well in his crate, although he would rather spend his days lounging in a dog bed or on a couch.  Rebel is a very trustworthy boy and doesn't mess with anything when left alone, which is surprising considering his past.

This boy is a pleasure to have around.  He loves to follow me wherever I go.  Rebel walks perfect on leash and actually struts his stuff.  He loves to play with toys and plays good by himself, but he LOVES when one of my dogs will play with him.  Normally, my male boxer doesn't play with my foster dogs, but he really enjoys interacting with Rebel.

I have fostered many dogs and have had my share of good, fun, silly, etc - this boy has met all of the above!  He is truly a great dog.  Rebel loves to lay in bed with me and will literally come over and sit on my lap in the most gentle way.  He recently met a toddler and loved him - Rebel was very gentle and actually gave him a kiss.   We are still working on some basic commands, but he is very eager to please so I expect him to pick those up in no time.

As far as Rebel's health, his 11 lb tumor is absolutely nothing to worry about.  It was removed without any complications and the biopsy report indicated it was a benign Fibroma.  This big, ugly growth didn't appear overnight, which is sad to know  that he dealt with this for a long time.  That is all in his past - Rebel is now a healthy boy with a beautiful coat and a great disposition.

I would love nothing more than for Rebel to be reunited with his partner, Reba.  If this does not happen, I am asking that Rebel be placed in a home with at least one other dog around his age that will play with him.  He is looking for a home that can give him the attention he deserves.  Please apply today if you think Rebel is the boy for you.  You won't regret applying for this wonderful boy!

Rebel and Reba flew into Baltimore on Thursday with Pilots and Paws.  We are very thankful to pilot, Scott Messinger, for his help in getting this pair into rescue.  Their temporary foster home has nothing but wonderful things to say about Rebel and Reba.  Both dogs are crate trained and housebroken.  They love toys and are very playful.  Rebel is having surgery today to remove his tumor.  We will update his page as he recovers and once we learn the biopsy results.

Rebel will be arriving at his foster home tomorrow to recover from surgery.  We would love to find this pair a home where they can remain together, but we will also consider a home for Rebel with a resident female dog.  Please continue to check for updates with his progress.  Thank you for your support and donations towards his care!

9/26/15 -

This skinny boy, Rebel, has been on the run with his friend, Reba, for at least four months.  The pair was finally caught and Pilots N Paws is scheduled to fly them into Baltimore later this week so they can join AABR.  Rebel will then be immediately going to our rescue vet so his tumor can be evaluated and surgery scheduled.  Rebel was lucky enough to make it through being on his own for this long and now we are hoping his luck continues and we can have the large mass removed cleanly.

Rebel is reported to be good with people and other dogs.  He is estimated to be around 2 yrs of age.  Please consider donating towards Rebel's care!  We will update his page once we have more information from our vet.

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please first read our Adoption Procedure, by clicking on the link at the top of this page, then fill out an online application.

Boxers and Applicants are not matched on a first come, first served basis. Not all applications are approved. On average, it takes between a week and 3 months to adopt a Rescue Boxer to an approved applicant, depending on your personal circumstances and flexibility.

Not every home is the right match for a boxer, and matching Boxers suitable for placement with younger children, other dogs, cats, and special needs, yours and theirs, increases the application review time and adoption time.

And yes, we realize that the Boxer you may have your heart set on, may be adopted before you're approved.   Should your first choices all ready found their forever home, we want you to advise us at your home visit of other dogs you are interested...  Or let us suggest a few that we feel will match your home.  That is what we are good at.   And be happy for the ones that have been placed... and know that there are way too many fantastic dogs waiting in their place.

Our non-profit organization is wholly comprised of hard-working volunteers whose only reward is seeing our wonderful Boxers placed in loving, permanent homes and given another chance for a happy life. Our process may seem slow, but if you are patient, we will try to provide you with a devoted, loving companion - a Boxer.

We hope you feel that the right Boxer is worth waiting for.
